Rumor has it that a navy blue DSM out of the SLS garage ran outta luck against a C5 on 13th Ave. last Friday night. I guess it was an impromptu roll-on from stoplight to stoplight(the stretch from Perkins to West Acres that goes under I-29). The vette driver said that the DSM driver offered some excuses when they talked at the 2nd light. The vette driver also said his ride was stock, and was even the heavy convertible model.

Did anyone see this or is it B.S.? Only blue DSM I've seen is Johnson's.

I was there... it was johnson and he wasn't even racing! Johnson had just gotten to the stoplight it turned green and he just kept going and then the corvette hit it

Impressive, and almost relevant to this thread. So you can beat a stock car, huh?

ACT 2900 Clutch........$410
PTE 56 trim turbo.......$850
GReddy type S BOV...$175
750cc injectors..........$305
Walbro 255lph HP.......$90
Stock 1g TSi AWD..$3,550(*obviously not entire list*)
Stopming a $60,000+ high performance domestic V8 with a four cylinder import worth 3500 and with less than 3 grand in mods....Priceless
For tuning cars go to SLS, for everything else, there's mastercard.

Not trying to be picky, but at least get your facts straight. Z06s sticker for around $55K. :D

I'll also take the peace of mind of not having the vette spew fluids after some time on the dyno.

From a value perspective, the Z06 is probably the best buy of all the new performance cars. If you want a new car and a warranty, the Z06 has pretty good bang for the buck. If you want a new car and want to mod it (and risk the warranty), I would say the Cobra is the way to go. Just a couple of thoughts...

Of course, on the street and in a race, the warranty, how much you paid for it and any excuses go out the window.

No replacement for displacement.....when it boils down it eh?

Oh well, boost is sure a lot of fun though :)

isnt the cobra priced right around the EVO and STi price tag and more expensive than a regular WRX? I think those would be easier to get a little more power out of for cheaper than a cobra...boost controller, fuel controller, more fuel...? I dont disagree tho cobras do have pretty good bang for their buck same with vettes altho i am not a domestic guy especially for fords

Tony.. Cobra:

Engine type V-8
Engine displacement 280 cu.in.
Engine horsepower 390-hp @ 6,000 rpm
Engine torque 390 lbs.-ft. @ 3,500 rpm
Valvetrain DOHC

Evo:

EPA Fuel Economy:
City: 18 Highway: 26
Available Engines:
271-hp, 2.0-liter I-4

Available Transmissions: 5-speed manual w/OD

... Cobra = alot more power, even w/ a boost controller, and whatever else you want to bolt on to the evo

Isn't it true with merely different pullies, slicks, exhaust, and an intake that cobra's hit consistant high 10's? Thats pretty amazing...

PSiedTSi
06-03-2004, 12:03 PM
yeah jim was talkin about how they are detuned or somethin and it doesnt take much...i retract my previous statement...

out there
06-05-2004, 03:29 PM
hmm.... cobra: assuming some mild weight reduction -
3500lbs + 15hp from pullies (restricted intake/exhaust) + probably 40-50hp from intake/exhaust + slicks = 11.5-12sec
the 1/4 calc that i used said 12.16 given 3500lb and 450bhp
i'm pretty sure that with a heavy clutch, light flywheel, lighter driveshaft, knife-edged crank and lighter wheels (in addition to the above list) could bring it into 10s with skills... assuming it doesn't run out of fuel

Really think it would need all that? I'm almost positive that the tranny in the stock cobra should be able to withstand that abuse.

PSiedTSi

wouldnt it be more than 15hp for a supercharger pulley? especially a really small one?

out there
06-07-2004, 12:44 AM
i'm just guestimating on the gains from a smaller pulley. my approximation is based on how restrictive the stock intake/exhaust probably is; hence the reason that the upgraded intake/exhaust would free up that much more power.

as far as the drivetrain changes, those are just suggestions to free up more power and to reduce drivetrain loss, nothing to do with how strong the stock parts are.
