The difference in gas mileage will be fairly small, the 3/4 ton will have shorter gearing so it will be reving a little higher when cruising down the highway. Both will suck gas, my 1500 gets around 10mpg driving around town with a little highway driving. It gets about 6 mpg pulling my trailer.

The 2500 will also ride a bit rougher than the 1500 and also has a slightly higher stance. If it's a gas, which I'm guessing it is, expect around 10-14mpg...if it was a 2500 diesel I'd be all for it...more power, better mpg, more reliable...but you do what it want.
