My friend has like a 99 cavi 4 banger, he is having electrical issues that make it seem like the alternator is going out, but he had that tested and it was good. he did cross the points on the alternator with a wrench or something and made it spark.

symptoms- dimm dashlights, dim head lights, low power for everything, dies, I think he said it will run if he jumps it, and all the dash lights freak out when it's running.

I havn't had a chance to look at it and he's not a big car guy, but I wanted to see what you guys thought. he's wondering if it will be worth fixing.

Nor does it have an alternator fuse. It may be the battery. Do this, jump start it and disconnect the negative terminal. If it dies, replace your alternator. If not, replace the battery.

When in doubt, check the fuses first.

It will run when jumpstarted but will die shortly after because the alternator is not charging to recharge the battery hence the car runs off of the battery and if the battery isnt fully charged, it wont last long. And thats why all of the stuff on the instrument cluster is wacky.
