Would it be worth it to upgrade to Blu-ray? I'm not a HUGE audio/videophile, but if there's a huge difference, I might consider upgrading. I've never really been able to compare the two side by side.

As far as paying too much, I've been noticing that new releases have been coming out at $20 (The Hangover, Star Trek, etc) and then will sometimes go up to $30 after the first week. You can also find really great deals on Amazon. They've had deals in the past where you can get something like 7 or 8 movies for $75. I also generally watch the Sunday ads to see what deals they have on blu rays. You can find $10 movies fairly easily. Just takes patience.

I think demand has gone way up. I tried finding The Hangover before Christmas and every single store in town was sold out. If Best Buy didn't get a shipment of them on Christmas Eve, I would have been out of luck. The stores have been underestimating blu ray demand. Plus players are getting a lot cheaper so a hell of a lot more people are buying them.

Yep, and I'm fairly certain a shitload of people were given plays for christmas because the bluray selection has been depleted every store I've tried to buy some at after Christmas.

I'll keep that in mind, $20 I can do for a new release, I spend that much on a DVD most of the time anyway.

Yep. I was skeptical, but I decided to take the plunge since I actually have a TV capable of taking advantage of it. Best decision I've made, other than the cost of the damn movies!

It adds pixels and changes refresh rate to simulate a HD signal, An up-converter actually degrades the picture while making the movement in shows appear smoother. If you have a TV capable of 720 or 1080 HD Blu-ray Is the way to go.
