I'm curious what you guys think.

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the majority discovers it can vote itself largess out of the public treasury. After that, the majority always votes for the candidate promising the most benefits with the result the democracy collapses because of the loose fiscal policy ensuing"

That would be a representational republic.

Oh, I know what he meant (see the sentence after the one you quoted). I think you'd be surprised how many people "on the system" in ND vote republican. Go to any small town bar/cafe/restaurant in ND where there is an elderly population collecting SS/Medicare and not currently paying any taxes and ask how many of them are democrats. I'll be surprised if in 30 bars/restaurants you find 10 people who identify as Dems.

I don't know how to go about putting that genie back in the bottle though as there are already too many people that rely on government services. Romney was right that many (not all) of them vote democrat. Where he messed up was saying that he doesn't worry about them. Some of the poorest people I know are died in wool conservatives and vote republican every single time.... but that comment about "not worrying about them" (paraphrased, I know... but that is what they remembered hearing) voted either for Johnson or BHO or didn't vote at all. Anyway, that just proves the point that people vote for who will benefit them, not the country as a whole.
