<p dir="auto">From my understanding is that with the key on you have 12 volts from batt. through keyswitch to light then to alt. If the alt. is not putting out power then it internally provides a ground, which in turn turns on the light. If the alt is putting out power then you will have 12 volts on boths terminals of the light, which will not turn the light on...</p>
<p dir="auto">This may be diff with the one-wire alt. and chevy wiring.....</p>

I have found that the cheap ones dont last long at all.  Get a decent reman AC delco and you'll be set for the life of the vehicle.....hopefully.</p>
