Ok, maybe a couple months in jail is extreme (unless they have a record of violence prior to this, then I say leave them in there for the max time). I do think they should do a little time somewhere for "INTENTIONALLY" trying to cause physical harm to an animal with no other purpose than for entertainment. Yes, I have killed many, many, many gophers and prairie dogs which is permitted under law. Why did I kill them? Well it was for financial reasons...no I didn't get paid to kill them, but by reducing the gopher population it greatly reduced the likelihood of one of my parents cattle from breaking their legs by stepping in a gopher hole, it also limited the potential for diseases being spread as gophers would often locate themselves near feeders in our pastures and would often shit in the feed.

I've never shot an animal just to see it in pain or to watch it flop around.

As for lobsters, yes the way they get cooked would be painful I imagine, but IIRC if you kill a Lobster prior to boiling it, the lobster will emit a toxin throughout its body making the meat uneatable (at least this is what I was told, I've not researched this one bit).

Just a quick point about the lobster comparison. A lobster dies pretty much INSTANTLY when it hits the boiling water. If anything it might suffer for a second, but then it's dead. Burning from gasoline is different...

Did anyone really pay attention to how long the turtle was lit on fire? It seemed that it was directly poured onto the shell for the most part, and ignited than later doused in water only a couple seconds later. Than they repeated the act, like they do have somewhat morals and didn't want a turtle to be burning forever, obviously. So, for 1, it was on a shell, one of the most protective parts of a turtle, 2, it was only for a short time, meaning it probably didn't get a chance to heat up to a point to really damage the shell. 3) It was a pretty big snapping turtle, and those babies get mean.
My friend, when he was younger had a friend lose a finger to a snapping turtle, and he was young at the time, so now with a past bad experience with a snapping turtle, everytime he sees them on the road or whereever, he runs them over since he hates them so much...
If you were going to compare this turtle (animal) to a human, than is it that everytime we hit a deer on the road and it dies, does that mean we committed manslaughter?? (but in animal terms) and if we hit that same deer, but it didn't die, but got severely injured, would that be attempted manslaughter?? (but in animal terms), the only controversial thing about this whole thing is that some people were sickened by the short video of showing the cruelty.. Now imagine if someone went deer hunting, and shot a deer, but didn't initially kill it but the deer went down, given that this deer would most likely be a distance away, it would sit there in pain and if we posted that on the internet, people would freak out too! But that happens probably every hunting season; crap some deer run for miles off of adrenaline only to drop later and slowly die in agony.. Do any of us see it? No.. But it more than likely happens.. Now when we compare a puppy to a turtle, we are also probably comparing a Person's pet to a wild animal, if the turtle was a pet, than the story kind of changes.. I am quite shocked to see how this outrage of this one and only damn turtle that probably survived and is out in the water somewhere, living it's normal life again. I used to know a guy who'd pretty much go fishing for snapping turtles for the direct reason that they were worth money for their shells and so forth.
So.. guess the main point of all this is, some people like to bitch about random shit and get fussy about nothing.. Granted yes it's a turtle, and a lil disturbing to watch, but so would watching a deer slowly die from a gunshot wound that you couldn't get a good hit on while hunting..

in reference to the deer getting shot then running away. Yes it happens, but it is not the intent of a hunter to just wound his prey for fun, but rather to kill the deer as a means of food, do things sometimes go wrong and you only end up wounding the deer, absolutely, but it was not the intent to do so and any hunter worth a shit will do his best to track that deer. The only reason that I can think of to start a turtle (or any animal) on fire is for the (apparant) humor in doing so.

I have some confessions...When I was young and living in a very small town I did some cruel things to animals completely out of boredom. I caught fish and then smashed them with rocks, shot birds with the sole intention of watching them die, chased and ran over rabbits with my snowmobile, etc. This shitty thing is, I don't feel any remorse. Why? Because I was bored and it was fun.

I've shot birds and rabbits with BB guns and they ran away.

I've put blackcats in frogs' mouths and watched their heads blow up.

I've run into millions of bugs with the front of my car.

I've put a lit cigarette and lighters on leaches, then left them on a dirt road to dry up and die.

I've hit a rabbit in my car.

(in best stewie voice) of course the turtle didn't get hurt...that's why it ran as fast as it could when it got started on fire...you know...because it was calm from the flames not hurting...that...that's why it didn't hurt bc it was so hot, bc fire is cold, bc burning on skin doesn't hurt, etc. etc.

Just because the skin is flame-resistant in a way, doesnt mean it wouldnt get hot and alarm the turtle, what if your shoe caught on fire, would u sit there calmly? no, u would run around like a lunatic, and u might not even feel the fire

I'll stay out of this but throw in something I know about 100%.

Typically lobsters aren't boiled. When they are it is just for show (it's what people expect). Chuck was right lobsters need to be killed while cooked or JUST before being cooked to avoid releasing toxins into their body. It's actually a pretty cool defense...."You can kill me, but once you eat me you too are fucked." To avoid the toxin release you have to pretty much gut a lobster as soon as it dies.

The real way that lobsters are cooked 99% of the time is this.

Lay them on their back and spread their legs/arms open. Run a chef knife into the "sternum" then split the "chest" open to the tail. Open them up like you are going to do heart surgery and clean out ALL internal organs under running water. Put them in a steamer for however long it takes to cook depending on size. All of this needs to be done in a very short time (2ish minutes is what it usually takes).

Hey everyone....Anonymously tell joel what you really think of him

^^ So your pretty much gutting it alive? So it has no chance to release toxins... Am I correct? Or as soon as you cut the sternum/chest it dies?

Anyways, I like wannabes comment; the turtle could of been freaking out from the fire that was around it, no so much on its shell..
