Power and potential of an LS1 in something that looks so much better than a catfish.

Now where to whore myself out for $30k....

While very powerful and what not, I personally think it destroys what makes the RX-7 so unique - the rotary engine.

I knew this argument wouldn't take long..

        I prefer pistons..

I also prefer pistons, but to me its like putting a V8 in an EVO or STi, or an S2000. Half of what makes those cars special is the engine, and the way they go about making power.

          To each their own.

Although before I thought this swap was gay, in the last 12 months my outlook on v8s has changed quite a bit. I think i'd rock it. 😉

I was gonna buy one, but decided against it at the last minute. You can find pretty nice ones for around 18k...

                  I was the same way.

It actually makes the car better...

I have no idea where you found one for $18k, but I don't think I would have thought twice for that one. The market for FD's has been increasing lately, and nationally it's hard to find a clean, rotary one for $18k.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

LS1 = reliable power for only a bit more weight.

                    Nuff said.

I don't even think it weighs any more, and if it does, it provides better corner weights...

fuck, if I had the $30k for it I would be on a plane right now...

I was reading the other day and IIRC (they) said 10-20lbs more weight with the LS1. which makes it what, 52/48 weight balance instead of 51/49?

But throw some aftermark heads and a cam at it and make, what, 450 rwhp +...

I would do an LS1 in a rx-7 or s13. It almost happened.

IIRC, when Hinson swapped the LS1 into an S14, after changing from the automatic + KA + exhaust, to the LS1 + tranny + exhaust, they lost about 140+ lbs, or some stupidly high difference like that. Not sure about the FC/FD chassis.

                                        interesting reading...

240Zs actually get rear heavy with an LS1. Going from 1400/1400 to 1400/1430...

For an FD; I would kind of think it's pointless to do unless the motor is blown, or you bought an empty shell and did the engine install. FDs are unique & rare, so no real reason to rip out the rotary engine. If I found a FD shell; I would put in an LT1 before a rotary though. Do some simple bolt-ons, cams, etc. Now if it was an FC; I wouldn't care so much if there was a rotary in there already; I would just do the swap. ++ W/ the probability of finding a FC shell cheaper over a FD I would probably drop a turbo on it and let her rip.. 🙂
