watch tsuchiya string together 5 or 6 corners in a row in a constant drift, that will be your answer.

Drifting is a Fact. On ice its a joke.(Ice racing is a differant story) Try to do it on dry pavement, and more then just a powerside around one corner.

Sliding around corners on snow and ice is nothing compaired to drifting on dry pavement. They are not even close to the same thing.

drifting only looks hard until you see why the pro's do it so easily!! the e-brake lever is on the dash!

Seems to me its just a waste of tires and horsepower. Why not go fast around a corner instead of looking like an out of control jackass?

Why waste tires and gas and trannies taking a car down a drag strip? Everyone has there own preference.

Well, from a technique, dynamics, and car control perspective, they're identical.

In my opinion, the differences are in speed only... both vehicle speed and driver speed. Speed is something that comes with practice, practice which is obtained at lower speeds.

I'd love to do a ride along with anyone here that thinks they are the hot shit at driving - drifting or otherwise. I think there's an awful lot of big talkers though 🙂

IMO, using the e-brake at all is cheating.

If you're going fast enough, simply lifting on the gas while turning in will initiate drift. (which also repudiates the ignorant claim that drifting is just "oversteer". )

IMO, drifting is subtly different than "LTO" (or "lift throttle oversteer", which is more common at the track). LTO tends to be the rear end coming around while the front is largely uninvolved. In a drift the fronts have some degree of lateral slip as well.

I've only been able to do it once, and it was snowy, but I completeed an S drift from a street, onto an avenue, and then into my alley, only using the throttle -- no steering input. Anyone with basic track experience understands that you can use the gas pedal to steer the car, but drifting takes that to a new level.

Stage Rally cars seem to have e-brakes on the dash but what they're doing is much more frantic than most drift drivers i see. I don't see a lot of dash-e-brake conversions on drift cars from watching stuff like BEST Motoring, Hot Version, etc.

Unfortuneately, I am no good at drifting on dry pavement, and i've not had the opportunity to see a D1 or other style event up close, so i can only talk about the drift cars i've seen in videos, and I can only talk about the limited stuff I've been able to do around town.

As i said elsewhere -- i'd love to ride with somebody that could show me how its done well.

I was once told that FWD cars are the best drift platform.

I was also told that drifting was invented by a guy named stumpy, who just nailed boards to his back wheels and slid down a hill in Montana.
