Bad day for a 455

Helped a friend today rip into his T/A this morning. This is what i found....the first pic is the harmonic balancer and chain. The second is the the timing gear. Look closely i know its not the best pic but you should be able to see the teeth. Enjoy!

Based on the look of the Harmonic balancer, I'd be suspect of the crankshaft's integrity. I know it's in a T/A, but is it an Old's 455 or an actual Pontiac engine?

If that's a double roller it would take quite a bit of destruction IE chain broke or more liekly what Wes said, too many r's on a weak crank.

Its a Pontiac 455

Ok......ripped the 455 out today after work and lookie what i found. This 455 has spun its last rpm. Enjoy.

All three are the crankshaft at different angles.

Ya, it wouldnt be so bad if I weren't still paying for it....let alone the fact that it only had about 7,000 miles on the engine, but it's my project car and I have all the time in the world to make it the way I want it.

It is Black......but it loud as well.

there is a t/a in west fargo with i 455 that just got put in a couple months ago. it's loud. might be the one your thinking of but i can't remember what color it was.

Just wondering if that's 7,000 on a rebuild or original miles? I'd lean towards a lighter 350 warmed over would be just fine, or 383 if you think you will miss the torque of the 455.
