A trained monkey could probably even mig weld...how bout an arc weld-off, I love watching people get all frustrated and pissed when they keep getting the rod to stick. When I took metals even the most retarded kids could mig, but most of the people in the class couldn't arc weld to save their life...

ndscs for sure, im in the welding program right now, you can take it at the skills center in fargo. it is a much better course than daves. It is much longer and you get more theory and technical info.

BULLSHIT! You can read a book about welding all day and when time comes to lay a bead it will look like shit. Dave's does 95% hands on actual welding. Just cause its a longer course doesn't mean shit.

wow are you serious?? I am not even going to argue with such idiotic statement

Even in a simple process like MIG i bet you dont even understand the principle or differences between the different transfers like Spray, Pluse, or Short Arc... or how different sheilding gases affect penetration or why

My dad has always been an excellent welder even without any welding education, because he has tons of experience..........

but when i tell him things and he understands why certain things are doing what they may it makes him a that much better welder

Ok, just so you know zach, we learn about Globular, Spray, short circuit etc.
The only difference between NDSCS and Daves is that the NDSCS program gets more extensivly into shit you don't need in most production fields...
Dave's teaches you everything you need to know to become a good welder(other than the stuff which you learn in industry, which even 2 years in school cant teach you) and NDSCS teaches you a lot of theory, and extra information which is helpful but not necessarily as important as straight up skill.

Ask your teacher why the local skills contests stop asking dave's students to come in.... They always waxed the 2 year tech school kids.

I started at the same time as a kid who graduated form NDSCS with a welding degree, we called him fat Jeff. He always wore his jacket telling everyone he could weld so much better, and then when they asked him to be a door welder, he could never pass any tests... I passed the door test first try... along with the other two people in my class who started with me at DMI....

As soon as you finish your school, let me know and we'll have a weld-off.

Zac, you've been welding forever, not just in school, so your situation is a little different.

lets get this out first...... AWS contest>>>>>>>10x's >>>>> skills contest

I won the AWS contest in SMAW (stick) in which i was competing against more that just students i was competing against "in the industry welders" aka old guys

over 65 people if i remember right

with open root joints and out of position

that is where i won my 200 dollar hood

Zac, my point was is that your welding skill is not completely due to going to school.

Just cuz u won a welding contest doesn't mean your school is better than someone who didn't...

The only reason school matters for those things is because you have a certificate that says you dedicated 2 years of your life to learn everything there is to know about welding. That knowledge doesnt make their welds look better or make them stronger.
