Is the USA the greatest country in the world?

Fair enough. I felt like you were attacking Fallguy for something he didn't say.

I didn't think I said anything to insult anybody, I think i did misinterpret what he said, I guess if sometakes me saying that people with an opposing viewpoint scare me is a personal insult somebody needs to grow a thicker skin. i think alot of people come here because it is very easy to get in and get benefits. It is my understanding that some other countrys have more stringent requirements to stay in the country and generally dont offer the same benefits to the alien as they do to the citizens. I was born here and I don't get some of the same benefits. Im not arguing that I should be able to get assistance with my income, just that I don't think people that are not citizens of our country should get the same benefits as citizens. I think it is the responsibility of whatever country they come from to provide them with assistance if they have income problems. I realize that its wishful thinking and that isn't the case, but still. Sorry if I offended anyone, I didn't mean any comment directly at any one person. -

So...to those of you that think our country is so horrible what other coutries have more freedoms then we do...cuz i'm pretty sure there arent really any...Almost every other country in the European Union.
Actually, as far as economic freedom goes, the US is the fourth most free country in the world. I remember reading an article a couple years back in... Forbes maybe? Or was it the Wall-Street Journal? I don't remember. Anyway, it listed the US behind Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia. A Google search came up with the top four in that same order on a number of other sites. As far as freedom in general, I read in middle school somewhere that the US was number 13 in the world, but who knows how accurate that was.
Granted, some of the freedoms the EU countries enjoy (gambling, drug use, prostitution, free education and health care) would probably be taken into excess here and become more of a problem than a freedom.
I don't think there is a GREATEST country in the world - judged by a certain universal set of criteria. To me, the "greatest" label is relative to the person. Every country in the world has its pros and cons, and its up to the person to decide what they want and what they're willing to deal with.

My wife and I visisted Germany for a few weeks and really liked it. I'm in the sort of industry where I could get a decent job in Germany pretty easily, and we both speak enough German that we got around just fine.
But, one reason why we cannot live in Germany long term is that homeschooling is illegal in Germany.
Why would homeschooling be illegal? Because the government & society feel that collective indoctrination of children is more important than the the relationship between parents and children.
So now that we've got a baby, if we moved to Germany today we'd need to move back to the US within 5 years.

This, I could beleive. I was reading aobut HK just hte other day, as it's a place I guessed would have more economic freedoms than the US currently does. Naturally it's economy is kicking just about everyone's ass. Also highest # of Rolls-Royce automobiles per capita of anywhere.

I think people get confused about what freedom really is.
Freedom is a society's propensity to tolerate what society finds objectionable. None of the things you listed are freedoms (free education and healthcare?). If 80% of EU citizens are fine with gambling, drug use, and prostitution, then it's not really a freedom at all, it's just democracy.
THe right to Free Speech is a freedom because it guarantees that unpopular speech is protected. There's never been a need to protect activities that a majority of people want. There's always been a need to protect activities that only a minority want.
My homeshcooling example is a perfect illustration of this.
So is firearms ownership -- which is illegal almost everywhere in Europe.

Agreed.

The only reason we have issues is because all the people that don't belong here legally are sucking up all of our resources!!thats the problem with supposedly being the biggest baddest uber good country in the world.... you get to take on the responsibility of caring for everyone else since they are so weak and pathetic and defenseless and utterly useless.
UNTIL THEY ARE IN YOUR FRIDGE!!! THROW THE F@*KHEADS OUT!!!
thats the mentality we as americans are required to carry, correct?

lets take care of everyone as long as they stay the hell out of here? hypocracy is a curious milkshake isnt it.its hard to believe a few illegal aliens can hinder the world power that is the united states of america.

That "few" can put a huge strain on what government resources are in place such as welfare, which can take it away from people that were born and raised here and need the financial help, but maybe dont have it quite as bad as the 60 year old guy that jumped the border and has absolutely nothing so he turns to the government for his free ride.

I would like to move to Canada, but i dont have the money or stability in my life to do so right now, also i would rather live in several different European countries as well Switzerland is one that comes to mind. Anyways I think the main reason i dont think we are the greatest country is because of what has happened since Bush got into office.....The guys a complete tool and FUCKED our economy for years to come, unless we get some common since i can see another depression happening within the next century......which i personally do not want to be part of. anyways im tired so im done rambling on now : )

actually they say in a few years white people wont be the majority in the US anymore...god help us then...I dont have a problem with other races coming into the US at all as long as they learn to speak our language and use it as their primary language. I personally hate when customers at my work come up and try to talk to me in Spanish/or any other language for that matter and get mad at me when i tell them i dont understand and ask them to speak english. They just look pissed and either leave or half ass their way through english and i still can barely understand them sometimes.
-
Thats the thing most dont learn the language...which is irritating as hell...hell if i could get away with it i'd tell everyone that comes into work that i cant understand to fucking leave...
If white people become minorities do u think we'll get special treatment, fuck no....

On thanksgiving day, I was sitting at my parents house watching tv...think abc or something like that. all the sudden, some guy comes on a starts babbling about what an influence the latin culture has had in america. Then he goes on to say they are going to broadcast some primetime show in Spanish with english subtitles. needless to say, I got some weird looks from my parents as I started yelling at the tv this is america. we speak english here. why in the hell do we have to read what is being said on our tv. if you cant speak english get the hell out of here. If we go to other countries, they expect us to speak their language, and if we cant, well fuck us, we arent gettin around anywhere in that place.

Not trying to piss anybody off because i fuckin hate when people cant speak english around here but the USA does not have an official language like most other countries so technically you cant say speak the language. None the less im not gonna learn other languages to accommodate these people.

I don't really care what color, race, religion etc anyone is that immigrates to the USA as long as they come here legally, and come here to be come Americans. Not African-Americans, not Mexican-Americans, not Norweigian-Americans, not Muslim-Americans, not Christian-Americans, but AMERICANS... Period.
Lots of diversity, and the freedom to pursue your dreams is what has made this country great.

I can see if u get laid off a little help till u can get to another job (which u should be immediately trying for)...but if someone just doesnt wanna work then fuck them, they should starve....
