where can I find sheet metal?

Go to gerdau Ameristeel or trudell trailers. Home improvement stores charge ridiculous amounts for metal. -

Not all of them are bad. I just tell them I don't know what the hell I want. I just go pick it out.

i put alot of it on me being young, as with some places car dealers, manufacturing, welding shops. for the most part look down on young people.

check with mcnelius steel. i know we get alot of steel from them at dakota fence. not sure if you can just walk in there and buy sheetmetal but its worth a call.

I've kinda changed up my plans a little. I designed a cabinet on pro-e tonight while I was screwin around in the computer lab. I've decided since metal is pretty expensive, that I'm just going to make it outa wood and then get some really thin cheap sheet metal to line the inside to protect the wood. I would need some pretty thick metal if I wanted this to be sturdy and be able to weld it together. This just seems more practical for me.

I have a custom built 4x4x4' cabinet with an expanded steel rotating table. The walls and ceiling are removable and are ductwork sheet metal. It's leaky but i was in a hurry -- i R&R'd and sand blasted about 25 cast iron radiators when i was remodelling my 1896 home last year.
I was using a john-deer hardhat 185cfm diesel trailered compressor and a 300lb instant-seal drum supply. I went through several hundred pounds of black-blast in this cabinet. The galvanic finish on the sheet metal is marred but completely undamaged as near as i can tell. The force of sand out of the nozzle was enough to tip over the radiators if I wasn't careful.
The sheet metal is so cheap that if you somehow wear it out, replacing it is trivial.
I can show you my setup and tell you what works / sucks if you're interested. I had tremendous sand leakage and ended up using it more as a 3 sided backstop than a sealed cabinet. I had to use a chain hoist to load and unload it. The rotating table made working with the heavy radiators considerably more plausible.
