So basically apple wrecks your shit (vandalism) if you have music on your iPod that wasn't bought from them. Some would consider that malicious software.
I knew there was reason I decided not to install the new update.
I stopped using limewire a long time ago, it's been nothing but torrents for me for the past few years.

Floola allows you to drag & drop videos as well which I why I prefer it.

EDIT: It also will convert non-mp4 files into MP4 so you can watch them on your ipod....just by dragging and dropping.

haven't noticed any losses on my end. but then again, i gave up on a lot of my old stuff from 8-9 years ago. majority of it now is recent.

Kossick... are you sure the database just didn't get corrupted and the option to remove the songs when they arent in the database was checked?

If Apple were doing this, there would be a HUGE uproar on the internet, and I havent found anything of the sort yet...

MP3 files contain little data besides the compressed audio... just the ID3 tag / adjoining information.

It'd be almost impossible for them to build a database and remove data, not to mention I think this would be illegal.

Anybody else want to chime in here?

I would be willing to bet it would be a violation of tampering with files that are not their own. I haven't read anything about it either. I'm guessing it was a user error or somethign was corrupt.

Either that or something that checks for some form of "DRM/Protected" and just won't include non DRM content in it's lists.

He said that stuff from Bittorrent is fine, and that's not DRM though...

Depending on how the files that are downloaded using bit torrent are ripped initially or if an ISO is downloaded they can still retain the DRM.

... ... You do know what DRM stands for right? Digital Right Management.

Yes, you can download a DRM file encoded file, but you need proper rights to play it.

We're not talking about ISO's, and files that are ripped from CD's don't have DRM built in. We're talking about iTunes and music files... Anyway, like he's already stated there are alot of non-DRM files that didn't get deleted / moved / mysteriously disappeared.

I've had no issues at all and there's been no uproar on digg or reddit so I'm assuming this is something else.

Yeah it completely wiped them off my hard drive, i even did a search for any type of file and typed in the title of one of the songs and its nowhere on my entire hard drive. When it happened I was freaking out and of course assuming that I did something wrong but when I looked more into it on the Apple Support page discussions everyone was ranting about the newest itunes and a handfull of them had the same problem I did... like I said it kept my downloads from Bit Torrent which is good cause thats like the last 2 years of music for me. In "My Shared Folder" where my music is kept anything I downloaded using limewire was a single file and bit torrent obviously had folders, anything in the folders was fine but now thats all thats left lol

I'm just making the assumption that there isnt a lot of discussion about it all over because not that many people hold onto music that long and have been using different things like bit torrent for years... I'm just a tard with a decent collection of Backstreet Boys...hahaha

I don't think iTunes even uses DRM anymore. I thought they got rid of it a while ago.

Maybe it's something with Genius. When you enable that, it sends information on your entire library back to Apple. I honestly think that it was an isolated incident with your machine.
