I have some bad news for people that go vegetarian/vegan for "not wanting to hurt animals" reasons.

Ask farmers if every pheasant in a field of wheat is smart enough to stay out of the feeder house of the combine.

    [hint: they aren't].

So as you are looking down at your delicious bowl of cheerios, made with fabulous whole grains, imagine the milk [or the water, if you're vegan or just really poor] turning slightly pink from the tinge of animal blood. Because a combine isn't especially particular about what it smashes and shreds into little bits as its trying to get the grain off of the plants. Pheasants do not come out of the other end of a threshing unit in one peice, cosseted and blanketed in unicorn giggles, rainbows eminating from their glorious wingspan.

Industrial farming in america destroys all kinds of animals. In ways that are probably considerably more unpleasant than a well placed shot from a hunter.

So unless you are going to get everything you eat out of your own garden, and pay real close attention to what you're doing, animals are going to be killed in unpleasant ways in order for you to eat. That's just the way it is.

Now the, the Lord has given us dominion over all of the plants and all of the beasts of the Earth. Our stewardship of these resources should be taken seriously, and it isn't right to take pleasure in making a creature suffer. That doesn't change the fact that animals exist for the sole purpose and function of meeting the needs and desires of humanity. They are to be subservient to us in all cases. No exceptions.

there have been a number of theology focused threads and other conversations where theology has come into play. I've never detected an anti-religious bent on FS.com. In any case, there are zillions of places on the internet where you can be free of ideas you don't agree with and where free expression is not tolerated. If you run FS.com and would prefer to run around with your hands over your ears lest you hear something you disagree with, just say so 🙂

In any case, I won't rathole on the topic of theology in a thread that is apparently about how vegetarians are always 110% gay sissies. I mentioned it for two reasons:

1- to reinforce the unique and superior position of man above all other creatures, and to show that in addition to this rationally self-evident proposition, that in the western judeo christian tradition, there is doctrinal codification of this as well.

2- to remind folks that our source of traditional ethics and morality specifically authorizes the consumption and use of animals.

IOW: the idea that it is unethical to eat animals is ridiculous. All of the worlds longest surviving societies consume animals.

Anyone that has an ethical quandry about eating animals is denying their own humanity.

How is eating something that contains nurishment that your body requires (for instance: protein) sound unethical to anyone? It really just seems odd to me, obviously man is designed to be an omnivore and as such should have a diet of both meat and plant. Too each their own I guess, but how you figure taking a pill (that was likely tested on animals somehow) to get the nurishment your body requires is any better than just going to the source I will never understand.

there's some hate for the vegetarian and not vegan community though, so watch what section you're in.

beans are your friend- cheap and full of protein.

also, be aware that "cheating" after you've been not eating meat for a while will make you really sick. Your stomach "forgets" how to digest meat.

and stay away from the frozen shit as much as possible...it gets super expensive really fast and it's full of salt.

IOW, just eat meat, you'll be healthier in the long run.
