ppl say dsms are unreliable and that all the 2gs crankwalk and die. I owned a 98 gsx for about 4-5 years with no huge problems. The cars are simple to make fast and when people cheap out or skip steps that's when things break and cars become unreliable. The only problem you might have is finding a decent dsm that hasn't been beat up already. Super fun cars though!

        Thanks for your advice.

Ya i am looking at a 98 gst 2.0 turbo with 122k miles on it for 2,500. Guy has a list of new parts that he just put in as well.

lol, Jake you dont want to open this can of worms...Yea they are great cars, people only say they break and whatnot because as stated, they cheap out and shit breaks, or the job wasnt done right. Youre just looking for a car to drive though so you shouldnt have to worry about it.

Things that go wrong with 2 G's that i have seen.

                      1. Crank walk --- Heavy clutch makes this worst
                      2. Suspension--- Dont lower your car with stock struts
                      3. Ball joints--- Normal
                        4 Clutch--- been beat on
                      4. Transmission grind--- Been beat on
                      5. Lifters---
                      6. Leaky oil pan--- I still cant get my oil pan to seal...
                      7. leaky oil return drain-- Easy fix
                        9.bad crank sensor--
                      8. timing belt balance shaft belt-- replace at every 60k
                      9. power steering squeel-- IDK
12 2gs rust underthe hood and door jams first..

They are good cars if you take care of them

Unless you are looking to buy one ASAP I would highly recommend waiting for an AWD model to surface...They do perform admirably in the snow/ice.

My Talon will usually get 25mpg +/- a few mpg's depending on how my driving was.

Get some compression numbers too!! That will give you a sign of what your getting into..

hmm kk thanks...How would i go about getting compression numbers?...Would $2500 be to much for a 98 with 122k miles. no dents or scratches. (Noob here)

I have been looking for the awd but there aren't to many of them in the F/M area or in Minneapolis area on craigslist

They are good cars if you take care of them

All those things go wrong with about any car. Except for maybe #7, but you can replace oil pan with valve cover.
