Well my buddy wants hids in his truck, and i told him that if hes going to do it to do a retrofit. I was going to do this a while back to my car but decided not to so I did do a little bit of research but I dont know alot. Well I saw they sell these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-93-CHEVY-C-K-1500-2500-TRUCK-PROJECTOR-HEADLIGHTS-8P_W0QQitemZ140392576146QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item20b00cb492.

I know he also need a balast and stuff but are these legit? Anyone in town do retrofits?

Those are still made for regular bulbs, so theyw on't have a disctinct cut off like real HID projectors

I just did a Cavalier for someone. Tell your friend to save his money unless he can get true dual projectors. The ones I installed had such a shitty pattern that the hid's were removed to put regular bulbs into them. The light went everywhere but where you could utilize it.

Yup... basically unless it has an HID cutoff, its going to be the same as putting HID's in a standard halogen headlight.

How do you know if the projector has a hid cutoff?

The lens has to be made specifically for HIDs, otherwise like Jim said you might as well put HIDs is your factory housing.

Factory ones from Lexus and BMW are common for HID retrofits.

If a projector wasn't made for HID's then it won't have a distinct HID cut off (and like 99% of the ones on ebay aren't made for HID's)

So if he were to get those headlights and replace the ebay projector with the Factory ones out of say a lexus or bmw it would be legit?

Yeah, fitment might be an issue though, you should see if you can get the measurements of both items.

TSX projectors are extremely popular with retrofits, and tend to be the less expensive of the group, with one of the best light outputs.

Thank you, I suppose you guys dont do retrofits being its probably technically illegal?

No we do not. Opening a headlight housing is just opening a can of worms (moisture/fitment isn't always even 'fair' looking/etc).
