first mistake, purchasing a VW, second mistake getting any non warranty/non recall work done at a dealership (esp. valley imports)Sucks, but lesson learned.
First mistake, posting in this thread. I didn't ask for any opinions. GTFO

Thank you. I just wanna make sure they aren't just making it up. If it's gotta be fixed it's gotta be fixed. I guess now they are trying to cut my dad a deal and somehow knocked off a few thousand. It just seems shady as hell. It's a dark blue toaureg BTW

Remind me NEVER to buy a VW/Audi. What kind of a piece of shit requires $4600 worth of timing belt service at 80k? Might as well drive an American car and just replace the whole engine as preventative maintenance at 80k and still be ahead.Testify!!!!!!!

According to the guy I talked to, it's common to see both the VW and Audi engines do this. He knew exactly what I was talking about soon as I said "Toaureg". For him to be in parts and know about that vehicle is saying at least a little bit. It's needed. If they work on the price, that would be awesome.

Valley Imports sucks, it just sucks we live in Fargo and have to deal with it cause they know they can get away with shit like that...when lambo guy had to get his oil changed,i heard they need to call lambo to find out where to drain the oil or something?
that right there should tell you them, and their techs are way out of their league when it comes to shit.
fuck em. i'd go to the cities for a 2nd opinion...unless its already too late and minneapolis is too far from minot..

agreed, you could find a used motor and pay a random shop to put it in for under 9k....

just a wild ass guess since you weren't positive what year I went with a 2005...labor time on it is 8.0 hrs for timing belt, cam seals, timing drive pulley, timing idler pulley, timing tensioner, and water pump....which at $200/hr labor would be $1600, so either their parts are more rediculous than they have ever been (doubtful) or they are screwing you from the get-go. And now they have added an r/r engine to "de-sludge" it...come on now man.
Tell me what year/engine it is, what all they are doing exactly, and what parts they are replacing and I'll tell you how bad your dad is getting screwed. (i'll even tell you with their labor rate/retail part prices)

You think I'm fucking retarded? It's obvious they are taking advantage of him because he's not a mechanic and buffed up on "car knowledge". I made this thread because I didn't buy into this "sludged up" bullshit and wanted someone just to confirm there was an actual problem and not just some fuckwad making shit up. The service writer has been shady as shit laying guilt on my dad like "ohh my mechanic wouldn't feel right just throwing this back together, it's like a band aid fix".... After some research sludge really has been a problem with these and other VW's. The 25 hours of labor I highly doubt though. You have nothing to contribute to this thread though. I asked for a little favor and got 3 pages of bullshit just like any other time I've been on fargostreet haha. BTW I AM a mechanic but my dad wanted work done by a VW dealership and there was some special tools that had to be bought so no one in Minot would do it.
