The newer droids are light years ahead of the first generation ones.

I was a die hard WM user... until MS dropped the ball on it. The newer touchscreen's are pretty damn good... I do alot of remote desktop style stuff and other advanced features most people don't use that reqiure atleast decent precision. To be honest, as much as it pains me to say, nothing touches the ipad/ipod/iphone touchscreens, but the newer droid phones are getting close.

brandon, what phone do you have? those issues can most likely be resolved with a different rom or radio baseband.

I love my X. Never had a lick of problems with it. But that's me. Its the only phone with an on screen keyboard board that i can actually text on with my big ass fingers. I still struggle a bit at that tho. So for ANYTHING other than texting, its great.
I actually miss my razr for texting.

Have you played much with WP7? I have heard some bright reviews from people I would consider less than tech savvy...which IMO goes a long way for me. I know it was missing copy/paste functionality(wtf?? seriously??) for awhile but I heard it was supposed to be taken care of late first quarter.

Exactly the same feeling for me. I had to go back to a grey market phone to get the form factor I actually wanted. I don't get why it is fading out with texting becoming so popular? How does the no D-pad work out on that phone?

If nothing good comes out soon, I'm getting the next iPhone because of what Jim said...the screen is unmatched.

Personally, I'd rather sacrifice screen size for a nice portrait keyboard. Texting is too popular right now to not think about it being 1 or 1a on my list of functionality. And yeah, I miss my old Moto V710 for texting as well. Motorola T9 was the easiest I ever used and probably was a lot faster than I even am now with the QWERTY.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

At work we have an assortment of VZW smartphones.... WP7, Iphone, Androids of various flavors, and BB (about 100 phones in all). We've had extremely good luck with the Androids (even on stock roms) and the push is to rid ourselves of blackberry phones by end of FY11. We initially had a good amount of Iphones, but only the diehard apple guys are currently using them. We had a TON of issues with the Iphone, mostly with the phones not ringing and emails not making it to the phones.

Most of us (at Dakota Security) that have Android phones are running swype keyboards. I guarantee that I can type faster with that keyboard than I can with any other keyboard (physical or onscreen) that I've ever tried.

The crazy part about the Androids is that we have had such good luck with them and such shitty luck with the Iphones that we changed our direction as far as what we were going to use for tablets for our sales force. We initially planned on going the Ipad2 route, but are now making the leap into full Android tablets. We have a meeting this week to determine the model that we are going to go with.

So what you're saying is; it's all based on preference? Weird.

My Droid sucks ass in terms of push notifications compared to my BB. Hands down. But over all, im happy with it. I don't feel the need to flex nuts on cell phone badass-ness anymore so I don't care. If it works, sweet. If I can get a few more options that amuse me, even sweeter.

Oh, absolutely it comes down to preference. Reliability also plays in. I just thought since everyone else was throwing in their 2 cents on the matter, I'd give our experiences with the products as well. I would say the push notifications isn't AS good with Android compared to BB, but when combined with an exchange server we've had virtually no issues (yes, I know that MOST of us don't have exchange servers for or regular email). The hardware issues with BB is the biggest reason why we are phasing them out. I've already explained why we won't run Iphones in my previous post.

But to reiterate, yes, it is a preference issue, but my companies preference is to use Android based on the performance issues we've had with other phones.

I dont really blame android for why my phone sucks so hard. I blame motorola. Ive never had any kind of luck with motorola nor haev i known anyone to. Ive owned probably 6 different motorola phones and each one has been replaced between 5-10 times. Their crap and i cant believe i didnt realize who made the x before i bought it. I was so hyped up over android and the large screen i completely zoned that out.

The day i bought my x it needed to be replaced within the first 3 hours because the start up screen locked up completely. Happened to me and wills phone both.
