Just an FYI for you guys - if you want to try and get Ron Paul to be the GOP nominee, there are steps you can take. The ND state delegate elections are happening right at the beginning of march, and the state convention happens over the march->april weekend in bismark. That group of people will decide for real who North Dakota's GOP nominees will be. All of these straw polls and caucuses and other things are all irrelevant dickwaving. What matters is becoming a delegate and going to the nominating convention.A subset of the ND delegates will be elected in bismark as national delegates representing ND, and will then go to Florida in august for the national GOP convention. The Florida nominating convention is the only thing that decides who the GOP nominee will be. Every single thing that the media has reported on thus far is non-binding.
If you want to do what you can to get Ron Paul to be the nominee, become a delegate. You can PM me and I'll put you in touch with the right people.
Normally, there is clear frontrunner going into the national nominating convention, and so the national convention is almost a formality. But if there is no clear leader, you get what's called a "brokered convention" and there is a lot of horse trading that goes on to try and whittle the field down to the eventual GOP nominee. That means even that if Paul doesn't pull off the delegate coup he's been planning, he's going to have a significant impact at the national level.
The plain fact of the matter is, Mittens can't win without the support of the Paul voters.
So here's the possibilities, as i see them:
- Paul "steals" the GOP nomination because his ground game was better re: the delegate and convention processes. Paul stacks up better against Obama than any other GOP contender, especially with dems who are disillusioned with Obama and independants. Paul vs. Obama is a close race
- Mittens becomes the GOP nominee, and there is some concession or other hting that happens whereby the majority of Paul supporters vote for Mittens. Mittens wins.
- Mittens becomes the GOP nominee, but Paul supporters do NOT support that ticket. Obama wins.
Newt Gingrich is a national embarassment. He's doing this to get his name back in the limelight, get some speaking and book deals, and then get some more lobbying gigs.
Santorum will get crushed in a national election. He is the embodiment of everything the left hates about the right. He's got a horrible spending problem, he nears the top of corruption lists.
Listen to this Santorum video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Gwwmm-cQxU
Mitt Romney signed an assault weapons ban and then talked about how great it was. He's actually worse than Obama on gun rights.
Check out Romney on guns: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9Ygw9CQ9po

Any weapon that could be lethal to law enforcement. So... any firearm ever made?

Yup, muskets and blunderbusses are out in 2013.

Santorum. ND has spokenEmbarrassing. I wouldn't doubt it if liberals actually voted for him to screw it up. Heard rumors about it happening in Michigan.
One thing I know, if the republican candidate wants to win, they would be smart to make Paul the VP....he IS the swing vote.

I agree with everything you just posted Tony. The ONLY way I vote Santorum is if Paul is the VP. Sadly I like Palin more than Santorum... she seems less crazy somehow.

You'd have to be crazy to think you could win using the lines Santorum is using. He is too far right, too unorganized, too much of a lobbyist to even be able to stand against Obama. He'd get wrecked like a freight train through a daycare.

You are probably right, but I don't think thats the "crazy" that Chuck was referring to.

What specifically about Santorum makes him "crazy"?He actually wants to make sodomy and birth control illegal? And he calls himself a conservative? That's about as far reaching as the government can get...I mean come on...seriously? Need I go on?
Oh, did I mention what he said about Kennedy? JFK makes him vomit? He's a freakin' loose cannon. He flip-flopped on Title X in like 5 days...saying he only voted for it because of the attached items to it...when he specifically pointed out he supported it. And that brings up an annoyance I think we need to get rid of...attaching unrelated pieces of legislature to other bills to force it through.
On a side note, this might be the first time I have considered voting Republican/conservative in my life...and these candidates are not making it easy on me. I actually feel like Gingrich is the lesser of the 3 evils for some reason. Bottomline, none of them are strong candidates.

He said that? Link?Santorum pointed to the landmark case, Lawrence v. Texas, where the U.S. Supreme Court overturned sodomy laws that were used to imprison gays and lesbians.
âAnd I stood up from the very beginning back in 2003 when the Supreme Court was going create a constitutional right to sodomy and said this is wrong we canât do this,â Santorum said. âAnd so I stood up when no one else did and got hammered for it. I stood up and I continue to stand up.â
And then this gem:
Santorum added, âI do not believe that sexual orientation should be added to hate crimes, but let me be honest, I donât believe in hate crimes, period.â
That was just a quick google search.
Separation of church and state anyone?
I believe that this country is a great country, because as you mentioned we are given rights by God. And that God is not any God â itâs the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and that God when he gave us rights, he also said, âhere are the laws by which your society is to be governedâ ⌠What we should do is orient our laws to make sure theyâre in conformity with the natural law. In conformity with Godâs law. And we donât. And when we donât, we end up in big trouble.
Our country was founded by people that were running from.........................................

I should have added "please no cut n paste from the loonie left wing web sites".
I'd prefer a vid of it coming out of his mouth.Maybe I'm crazy too... I don't believe in hate crimes either. If you beat someone up because you don't like the color of their skin, or their ethinic background, their religious preference, etc, I could care less. You beat someone else up and you do the time for beating someone up. Your reasoning for beating someone up doesn't make a bit of difference, and shouldn't have any weigh in deciding the penalty IMO.

Santorum is everything the left hates about republicans. I don't despise all of the different moralistic stuff he talks about -- but hardly any of that stuff is the government's business.
Also, there is this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RyYKjoZV1RsSo basically, fuck him

Also, Santorum has a huge spending problem, and is rock hard about getting us into a 5th war in Iran.

I think the video Thrash posted pretty much nailed it. From what I can tell his intentions are to force his morals of his God on the rest of the country. Are there general "ideals" that religions bring forth that can be used for the good of all? Absolutely! I'm a Lutheran so Christianity shouldn't be an issue for ME. But not everyone's brand of Christianity is the same. I was raised Catholic and there is no way in hell that I'd want the Catholic church setting the rules of this country.
I guess the short version is that while I have moved significantly further right in the past 8 years I have moved further from authoritarian and closer to libertarian, it's the only party that really makes sense to me.
I don't care if anyone is gay/straight/transgendered/bi. I am all for letting people of the same sex get married (I am also in favor of the churches having the authority to not recognize/perform these marriages if they so choose). I have no problem with gays/lesbians adopting kids. I have no problem with Planned Parenthood (which passed under Nixon btw w/ major bipartisan support) continuing to be funded by the federal government (not very libertarian of me, I know). I have an issue with abortion in almost every scenario imaginable. I am pro-gun and pro-personal rights, yet I don't necessarily believe that all rights are absolute (you can't yell fire in a movie theater for example). I'm pro keeping the government out of my business. I'm pro tax reform, even if it means that I personally pay more taxes (I paid a lower percentage each time I moved up a bracket as I had more deductions...I'm not quite at Romney/Buffet levels, but I'm under 20%) I ok with some regulation of industry, but currently believe that there are too many restrictions. I am pro smaller military numbers but not necessarily in favor of cutting technology spending and special forces training. I'm in favor of shutting down most of our overseas bases as well, though we do need some for strategic reasons (Diego Garcia, Germany, Okinawa and a few others come to mind). I believe everyone has a right to health care regardless of income, but I don't necessarily think they should be required to have health insurance.
I guess to some I just explained why I am crazy more than why I think Santorum is... so here is a copy & paste of some of the things I think makes him absolutely crazy
Rick Santorum wrote:
Santorum said Obama is a snob for wanting all Americans to go to college. Meanwhile Santorum has a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University, a M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and a J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law. "President Obama once said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob," Santorum said.Santorum said that President Kennedyâs famous 1960 speech pledging to keep Pope and politics separate âmakes me want to throw up.â
Santorum said that the Supreme Court was wrong when it ruled in 1965 that married Americans have a right to privacy that includes the use of contraceptives.
Santorum said in his 2005 book, "It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good," that parents in two-income families aren't doing what's best for the kids, describing it as a sad situation created by "radical feminists" who undermined the traditional family by "convincing women that professional accomplishments are the key to happiness."
Santorum doesn't want women in combat because he says he worries that fighting men will be distracted by their "natural instinct" to protect women. He also says the differences in physical abilities between men and women aren't being taken into account.
Santorum wants to reinstate the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that banned openly gay service members. Saying they, (Gays) "Keep it to yourself whether you're a heterosexual or a homosexual."
Some of those are outlined in the video as well, but I thought that I'd point them out again.

Nope, I wrote one out about the "separation of church and state" and the first ammendment. I'm guessing I will still have it on my computer at home so I'll try to cut n paste it tonite.
