If he wouldnt mind a used one straightline specialties probably get you one for nearly half that......7012822902.

PsiedTsi got one from them at a great price with just about a perfect compression test as you could ask for.

Getcher green hat, we are goin fishin.

first, look around for a vendor on www.dsmtuners.com; then choose one to buy forged pistons and rods from. once the parts arrive, find a machine shop
unless your friend gets titanium rods and custom pistons, crankshaft, etc... i don't see it costing more than 1500 tops

Why would he get titanium rods and upgrades for 420a?

420a's are identical from avengers, sebrings, all non turbo eclipses; they are mounted backwards on 95-99 neons.

420a's are cheap as hell... no way should it be upwards of 3500+....

If he's looking at getting that motor rebuilt, I would recommend Brian @ Sturdevant's machine shop. He's an awesome guy, and he's been doing a LOT of 4 cylinder motors lately.

I talked to him and i guess what happened is the timing belt broke and now he need a whole new motor. I thought he blew it by running it too hard or something but I guess not.

well if his timing belt broke them he probably doesn't need a whole new motor... he might only need a new head... he should find out what he needs before he goes replacing the whole thing

I will second what troy said, have Brian @ Sturdevants do the build, he is very good at what he does and has been doing a ton of DSM lately

did i mention that i can't read? after reading the latests posts, if i were this guy... i'd send the head off to get rebuilt by a reputable "speed shop." if he just wants it to be stock... then take it to one of the local shops and have them nurse it back into shape

some day all cars will have cheap plastic engins and instead of getting your oil changed you just replace the whole deal.
