Interstate Motorcar

I looked at a 95 or 96 (cant remember) grand prix there a few years ago...the car was worth about 3800, maybe even 4k$...but he was asking nearly 6k$ for it! Believe me the car wasnt even worth 4500$...almost 90k miles, slight body damage, and it didnt really run 100%. The guy wouldnt move an inch on the price...trying to tell me a sob story that he paid 7K$ for it...after he said that I literally just said "you got ripped off" and walked out...didnt want to deal with that b.s. place

Sounds just like what I bought. A 95 GP.. 93,000 miles. No body damage though. He would not move an inch on the price. He wanted $5999. Double the book price! Although he gave me almost 3 grand more than what my trade-in was worth.. brought the final price to $3450. Don't tell me it was a red coupe...
haha if this is the same car, I'm gonna be pissed. Ran like shit because the intake gaskets were full of stopleak!

ha crap. Well it wasn't this thing, was it:
Most notable thing is the black pinstriping in the side molding.
If I get a 'yes' to this question.. well fuck. -
The whole thing is insanely clean... its just the mechanical portion of it has taken a dump. I've pretty much got it all fixed, minus a steering problem I'm currently working on solving, so I can't give up on it now.
What would you want this interior for? Its uber base model interior.
And funny thing too.. I remember seeing it on their website like 6 months before I bought it and saw the price they had up for it and remember thinking, "Who the FUCK would pay THAT kind of money for that dang thing!!?"....... Then I paid that kind of money for that thing. Hah.

No not that I've noticed.

#1 That dealership is just fine, and they usually have nicer stuff.
#2 More than book? Hmmm. They are a business trying to make money.
#3 Pontiacs suck. They didn't "rig" it for you. It's probaly higher miles, a cheaper mass production pontiac, as is. Sounds like break down city to me in the first place. -
actually i disagree to an extent with ya PSiedTSi.
are they good motors? if maintained flawlessly
at 90k miles you should replace the head and intake gaskets, cuz they are known for giving at about that mileage.
besides that, it is a better motor then its competitors.
if i was the thread starter that would be the next on my list of things to fix on that car. -
ive never heard anythin about replacing the head gaskets at 90k...my car is at 145k or so and it still has the OEM head gaskets...and i dont believe the intake gaskets have been changed either and that was a problem with the 3100s...and as a winter beater it is not maintained flawlessly

I got kicked out of there, well not kicked but was told I should leave.
I went in and test drove a pickup that seemed pretty clean on the surface, but got to looking closer.
So I drove it, went back to my dorm, looked up the KBB and printed it, went back there to negotiate.
Well I knew fully well what all was wrong with it and wanted it mainly for a project, it had various problems with the engine, didnt matter since I had a brand new engine to go in it, the two things that got me were, it had a snap on bed cover at one time, and I happened to drive it the day after it rained, and the back window leaked like a siv.
So I go in there and show the guy they are above book on a good condition truck, then I tell him I didnt even feel it was in good condition, the snaps on the bed would all have to be taken out and welded and painted. He said "ya we could do that" and I said "if you guys did it you would half ass it to get it out the door" then I told him about the window leaking and the big pool of water in there, and told him that that would need to be fixed and then the carpet would have to be replaced, and any rust that formed under the carpet would have to be sanded down and repainted.
Then I started in on the engine problems, and I told him a price because I considered it poor condition (which it was) and at that point he told me to leave. I dont think I would buy a vehicle there after the problems I seen with that one vehicle.
All the rinky dinky car lots in fargo polish turds, so pay attention to the details. All they care about is moving product out the door, goes for any mom and pop used car place. At least if you buy from name brand dealerships they have standards to adhere to and if you have a problem they will more than likely fix it right for you before you buy it.

There is a point where a business is making money and just plain ripping you off....they are ripping people off. That grand prix was not high miles by any means (hasnt even hit 100k miles yet), BUT it probably wasnt the most taken care of car in its life so the lower miles can be deceiving. The guy I talked to about that grand prix was an ass about it and if I were to of gotten into it more with him im sure I would of gotten kicked out also...

The 3.4 dohc gm motor is one of the worst motors gm has produced...From knowing a guy who used to own one, researching, and asking a few mechanics about em' (and seeing their face when I mention that motor). But I will agree that the 3100 and especially the 3800 is a VERY awesome motor to get your hands on...
-
well the 3800 motor is a completely different block all together...the dohc honestly isnt that bad...you have to take care of it like all motors...its a bitch to work on thats all...its the exact same bottom end as the 3.1 with dohc heads basically put on there...they originally made the motor to be around 300hp but they couldnt get a transmission to support it...id say the transmissions are way more a problem than the motors

This thing has the 3100. It had around 90,000 miles on it. And what car ISN'T mass produced?? The fact that it is a Pontiac has nothing to do with it. I've had 3 Pontiac's. I've got one sitting at home with 220,000 on it and its very healthy.
I know the intake gaskets are common on it. Headgaskets are somewhat. When the intakes went out, the whole engine was gone through, cleaned up, and everything got new gaskets. Like I said, I've spent enough and gotten it back to running the way it should.. just curious to see if anyone covered up anything.
