Solutions to the car thieving problem
-
I'm sorry, but the trap idea is retarded. Do you guys honestly think that if you put some stereo shit in a car then set it outside somewhere one night that it will get broken in to and case solved. WRONG. How many cars in fargo DON'T get broken into in a year, oh, I'd say about 99% of them, therefore you guys think that you can put a stereo in a car and it will immediatly be stolen, let me tell you something, I have had a stereo in my car(s) for 8 years and they have NEVER been stolen. So if you guys want to set up a trap, be ready to sit up all night watching the car every night for the next 20 years.
That is the reason why I got into the theft provention conversation. I'm not trying to be a dick here, but honestly the FIRST thing you should do when you start modifying a car is put in an alarm, like I said they are $20. An alarm doesn't need to start your car, it doesn't need to unlock or pop your doors, it doesn't need to roll down the windows, etc... it just needs to MAKE NOISE (for an added benefit get a couple extra sirens and put them inside the interior of the car). Yea, I feel sorry for the people getting their shit jacked, but honestly at the same time, I don't. Weather we like it or not, there are scumbags out there that are going to steal shit, and instead of buying cigarettes for a week, or coffee for a week, or the extra special colored speaker wire that used to be connected to your speakers (just get regular shit), you could have had an alarm, and there is no guarantee that they still wouldn't have stolen your shit, but I know from experience, when I was stealing shit, if an alarm went off, I LEFT.

I am not saying the trap would be sprung right away. But if you set the trap right, it will be sprung eventually, and most likely sooner than later. Easy targets are hard to pass up, especially when their whereabouts are known. Make it high profile that the car has expensive stereo stuff in it. There are probably a number of people on here that have some very nice stuff in their car, are well known at "car shows" and on the "street scene", and would never dream of parking it outside in a "bad" neighborhood with little lighting and such. Well, do it. Use it as bait.
And again, this has to be done sort of under the radar. It is fine to make the preliminary planning on this board, but specifics as to which car and where does not need to be said publicly. Besides, if the theives see that there is going to be traps set, the thefts may stop altogether and merely the threat achieved it's purpose.
Doing anything is better than doing nothing at this point, unless you like to be a victim. When the big hairy guy comes to anally rape you, you just bend over and prepare to take it, eh?
I was thinking that there were some people here that, when their stuff they bought with their hard earned money was taken by some low life scum, would want to do something about it. -

I have a stock alarm on my car... Somehow, it didn't go off. Brandon (turbo civic) has a decent aftermarket security system as well. Tested and worked every time. Didn't go off. POlus, It's not like I parked it on the street, it was nearly touching my garage door, about 20 feet away from where my parents sleep. My driveway is long, so they knew who I was and What was in the car. They didn't take the 500 clay chip poker set in the back either, which Is kind of weird. oh yeah, they took a cell phone too. I will be contacting verizon today and making sure that the ESN number is red flagged.

hmm...what did we learn here? Oh yeah...alarms are only so good and stock alarms lick balls

Stormwalker, Like I said, I don't feel that this trap will work unless you put a 5K stereo in a car, cover the car with stickers advertising the stereo, put a huge "THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE AN ALARM" sticker across the side of the car, then park it in a dark area. Still then you could be waiting a VERY long time for someone to hit it. But hey, please, everyone, prove me wrong. Donate a car and an assload of stereo shit to become a "bait" car. If someone breaks into the car and steals it all and gets caught, good. But it doesn't change the fact that you have only caught 1 out of 50+ people doing this in fargo.
Joel, sorry man, but I find it kind of strange that the only time the alarms didn't go off was when they absolutely needed too. I'm not saying that you set it up like that, I'm just saying it sounds strange.
Also, you could be parked in the front yard with street lights directly above your car with a cop sleeping in the room next to the car with the window open and the person wouldn't care. If the alarm doesn't work, they are going to steal shit as long as they don't get seen.

Posting solutions to trap thieves on here isn't a very smart idea. I'm 90% sure that the thieves are members of this forum, or have connection to this forum. The suspect who stole Joel's stuff might have been his friends or "former friends"(hint)...
-
about the whole storage unit things, they get broken into too, did you know that? I've known of people doing it before, I wasn't friends with them, and no names were mentioned on who did it, but I knew of it happening, so they aren't the safest either

Here is one way that i can almost GUARANTEE you will get the cops involved. Call or write or email or whatever the police and just plainly state that "Since you seem to not care very much about the recent spike in thefts in the FM area we will be taking matters into our own hands. Anyone caught stealing from us will be shot at/killed on the spot, no questions asked, because we feel personally threatened by it all" Guarantee you they would get a little more involved.
My dads friend called the police once when he broke up an assault and the police said that they were too busy to help with him so he said that he'd just shoot the guy since he was armed and couldn't wait long....a cop showed up 3 minutes later. Give them something to come for and they'll get involved.

Alright, stangerbanger, though that is an interesting idea, I doubt it is a very good solution. I really think you guys can do something about this. However, as things usually go, left to your own designs a lot of talking will be done and nothing actually achieved.
So, we will simply assemble the FargoStreet Special Ops division right now. The members will be:
wannabe: This person most recently got his car broken into. He is familiar with what was taken, how it was taken, where it was taken, etc. Also, this person has some motivation to catch the thieves.
amichese: This person seems willing to do something about it, and suggested that it be kept on the "downlow". Well, it will be now, and you are involved
97jeep: This person decided to post in this thread. Bringing up the GPS idea on the cell phone was a good idea. Let's see how many more you can come up with
darkelvis: Surprised? This person is a skeptic, and repeatedly posts up why ideas will not work. Good to have one of these types of people in a group, in this case FS Special Ops
MisterCMK: This person will lead the FS Special Ops, because he is somewhat of an outsider, and any group headed by a white guy with a fro is sure to be successful. At least he can be trusted. He will be in charge of assigning work group assignments, and be the final judge on what plan of action to go with, voting with the majority of course, but mediating when no clear path is apparent.
And of course, you guys are welcome to bounce ideas off of me if you wish.
Together, you all will make.....Charlie's Ange....er, Fargo Street Special Ops! Your first meeting will include some preliminary planning, and discuss who to further recruit into FargoStreet Special Ops. Be sure to only recruit trustworthy people, yet at the same time the more you have in numbers, the more effective you will be.
First Meeting: Tenatively, I was thinking Tuesday night at Bdubs? FoMoCoFa already meets there, it would be easy enough. Otherwise if this does not work, another meeting time has to be set by the end of the week. If one of the people I listed wants out, you must talk to me, otherwise I will have you hunted down and sprayed gratuitously with shaving cream.
You all have a start now. Get to work.

Could try some bear traps. Worked on Tom Goes to the Mayor.
-
or we could just kill everyone that walks by our cars and then eventually we'd probably kill the person stealing shit.
EDIT: Sweet WRX that show is awesome haha i have it on my computer.
Put a beartrap here, put a beartrap there, traps can go most anywhere

lets just get somebody with a big ass redneck truck to drive around potential areas with stealable cars and start running over people who look suspicious.

Well, let me know how it goes tonight, hopefully at least a couple of people show. Whoever does not, I want to never ever hear them bitch about auto theft stuff again, since they were not willing to do anything about it besides bitch about it.
