Well I just had a 30min phone call with the NHTSA/DOT in Washington, DC. It was regarding importation of vehicles from Canada to the US and Skylines in general. We can not purchase a skyline through Canada and bring it to the states. The rule is 15yrs and older in Canada but it is 25 years in the US. The only way you can bring a Skyline into the states is through Motorex, which most of you know is in the shitter right now. They originally contracted with JK motors out of Baltimore, MD to do their modification work. Motorex had the cars crash tested through JK motors but had JK motors sign a contract to never compete with Motorex themselves. Once the modifications were known by Motorex, they asked for them to become a trade secret and no longer be public knowledge. This is where we are hung up. Motorex basically dried up and f*cked themselves over. They lied to our government in more than one way. They got really lazy and would send in the wrong pictures with different cars. When actually investigated by the government the cars were either not modified like they claimed, or they were released before they were actually approved by the government. Big no no. They lied to the NHTSA/DOT and the EPA...they pulled a double whammy. There are a ton of lawsuits against them right now. The government believes they will end up claiming bankruptcy, which will screw a ton of people and cause a mass chaos, even moreso than it already is. Motorex did offer up their trade secrets for the price of $100,000 which would be very hard to recover and still make money. Right now the government's lawyers are trying to decide what model to let into the US to be legalized by a registered importer. He could not tell me what it will be cause even he doesn't have the full info yet, but he thinks it will be the R32 since it is the easiest to modify. R33's need dual airbags after 96 and they did not have that. Originally, Motorex had the government believe that 90-99 were all the same body style. Bad idea. They pretty much screwed themselves in the end. If you want anymore info or have any questions let me know.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

I like how the intercooler is too big, so it hands below the bottom of the bumper. tough crowd we are.

sorry... that didn't come out right... I agree, an intercooler, can rarely be too big. I just meant it was too big for the bumper, cause it hangs below the bottom.

Anyways that was really stupid of Motorex to do that shit. It's too bad someone doesn't pick this shit up and legalize cars legit.

Now y'all know why Eric didn't bring his blue R-32 over here. When he originally contacted MotoRex, they gave him 1 quote. He contacted them a little bit later, and this right when the investigation was really getting to be known to the car community, and they increased his price by a LOT.

I'm willing to bet that if he had taken them up, his car would either still be on MotoRex's property, or seized by the gov't as evidence.

There's either 11 or 12 LEGAL R-34s in the states, and from what I have read, they will stay legal.

I am not sure on how many R-33s or R-32s.

As far as Silvias go, I'm sure y'all know about the various shop cars around the nation that are using S-15s. Not street legal, but they're demo cars. However, there's a guy in my hometown that has a GT-R-32, a GT-R-33, AND (somehow) a legalized S15 Silvia. It read as a Silvia on the VIN, state registration, insurance, etc. and it 's 100% legal. I don't know how the hell he got it over here, seeing as how after this strapdown on MotoRex has fucked a lot of importing laws, esp. regarding OBDII cars such as the S15.

I don't know the whole situation, all I know is that the GT-Rs are riced out b/c he has a lot of money and no taste, and I haven't seen pics of the S15 since they originally recieved it.

(The guys from Sat. night at Fargo Tintmasters heard this already, but whatever)

When we were riding into town from the base, I was about 20 minutes ahead of him. Cop passes the other way, so I phone him to let him know. Cop pulls him over b/c he wasn't displaying his tag on the front bumper. (We refiberglassed it that afternoon, it hadn't cured yet) After hearin Eric's reason, he asked why he had such a large radiator. 😕

                                    😄

thats the same intercooler that i have...it just hangs down cause the previous owner mounted it too low and most bumpers have a stock lip on it and mine for some reason does not...but yeah I will be keeping in touch with the DOT and up to date on the motorex thing. If you guys have any specific questions I can certainly ask and get a straight answer from someone that knows.

                                        and joel i ran a 13.4 🙂 haha

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

Anyways that was really stupid of Motorex to do that shit. It's too bad someone doesn't pick this shit up and legalize cars legit.

well just look for some future developments...you may be pleasantly surprised 😉
