Question for Tintmasters
-
this is for jason. Great Tintmasters has a tax id number that does not mean that tintmasters owns the name tintmasters or any other way of wording it. When you start a company you have to register you company name with the state, you then recieve a paper like what Tufte put on saying that he registered SLS in his name, by doing this you own the the name you register and no one can register that name or a name simular to it with out the state notifing you the owner. The Trademark name registration is good for five years for date issued. for instance on Tufte's he has until july 21 of 2009 be for he has to register again the state mails him a reminder or any other company a reminder around month before reminding you to reregister which cost you the owner 25.00 dollars. if you fail to reregister two weeks after your date of expiration for instance july 21 2009 it becomes public domain again and anyone can register that name and have ownership of it. great you have state tax id doesn't mean you own the name....
the person who is registered under the name whether its Tintmasters, SLS, Roadsounds, Site on sound, paridise audio, team who ever is the owner of that name even though they do not own the company. there is nothing the originator of the company can do they let the registration slip its there own falt whoever it may be. -

This thread is better than the striper threads.
No Sh*t....this is pretty damn interesting. -
The tax use permit is something you post in a 'conspicuous place'.... aka its for public view.
Shane, myself, and everyone at the shop appreciate those standing behind us, and rest assured this will get resolved.

Obviously I have know about tintmasters I have a store in Fargo as well. I havnt needed to use it, kind of my ace in the hole.
remember i didnt start this thread, had it not been brought up it would sit in my file cabinet for another year. -
So just give Shane tintmasters name if it ends up as YOURS and you have roadsounds. Or do you not want competition anymore??
-
It is his im pretty sure, i don't think there is really a question about that. In my opinion he doesn't have to give him the name. He purchased it legally and shane missed on it. He made what could be a smart buisness move.
-
Still dumb to purchase it and let someone run a bussiness under the name. WTF???
-
You dont understand
-
Whatever....good luck to you guys getting this straightened out.

This type of stuff seriously happens all the time in corporate america. For example, I heard the other day that MICROSOFT actually owns the trade name I-pod. Obviously if Steve (roadsounds) wanted to start some shit he could have made Shane pay for the name or made him change his store name. I DON'T think he wants to start that level of drama, but at the same time he, like he said, is holding the trump card incase the proverbial shit hits the fan sometime down the road. Steve has no legal obligation to hand over the rights to the name. This was sitting quietly in the dark until someone brought it up on here, so obviously it was a non-issue at this point for steve.

all i am saying dont get your panites in a bunch over something you cant control...:)
I am not...I was just curious to why he purchased the name and didnt do anything about it. I mean it obviously doesnt affect the guy that someone else is using his name for a shop, but it is very messed up.Phats wrote:

I was kinda thinking that too... -
this sounds interesting....on one hand a savy business move....underhanded? yes...but savy......then it comes down to a question of ethics, something that has been thrown under the bus over the years....if it is a plot to screw a person out of all their hard work, then it's just gay, cheap and gay..........don't know the whole story behind the story......don't want to get involved but thats two ways to look at it
