PLEASE don't EVER buy a TurboXS BOV. They are total garbage. Just stick with a Greddy, HKS, Tial or Blitz. If the sounds really matter that much, do a search on some of the DSM forums, someone had a page with a bunch of different sound files and vids of different BOV's.

a bov (various names, diverter valve being one) is designed to relieve pressure between shifts or when the throttle is closed abruptly, thus saving excess wear on the throttle body and the turbo.
they can affect preformance (positively or negatively) by either venting or recirculating. venting is releasing the pressurized air to the atmosphere, and recirculating pushes the air back in (generally) behind the mas (mass air sensor) to help keep the turbo from losing momentum between shifts.
if you're really hung up on the sound of your bov, don't bother boosting your engine, you more than likely won't be able to hear much more than a pah (yes, pah with a very quiet "p") inside the car. in addition, if you just want to suprise people with a weird sound your car makes... pull it out of gear and then slam it back into gear without the touching the clutch or the gas pedal. -
the txs bov is good IF you keep it clean and free from gunk.

My buddiy had a Turbo XS BOV and he used it as a paperweight. POS. -
I had a Turbo XS Type H on my car for about 15 minutes. Felt like ass and too freakin loud. Switched back to my 1g BOV and went much faster and sounded ok.
I have yet to buy anything other than a Tial or Greddy Type-S. The best sounding BOV for the least bucks is the good ol' 1g BOV. Crush it and do the complete mod from here:

Very nice, loud with hard IC and intake pipes. With T3/T4 turbos it sounds absolutley awsome. Only down-side to a 1g BOV is it's not for cars making over 500-550hp. The discharge is too small to prevent throttle body damage, compressor surge, etc.

Any bypass valve that vents into the atmosphere will be loud. Most stock bypass valves vent back into the intake manifold and makes a kind of whoosing noise rather than the bus-like psst you get from the atmospheric BOV's. The purpose of a bypass valve is not to increase horsepower, but to save the life of a turbo. Keep in mind that if you vent into the atmosphere instead of back into the intake manifold you might encounter idling problems.

Quick question about aftermarket BOV's for you WRX owners out there...when your's vents, does it sound like it is mounted under the dash? I swear mine sounds like it's right behind the speedometer.
