I lived in Minneapolis for a school year, and I saw it's true colors. It wasn't a bad place to live, and I would actually consider it one of the better places to live in the country because of its culture, etc. It's a pretty well renowned metro area. The key is finding a nice neighborhood and the right people. One of the reasons I came back is because of my friends/family.

I still ponder moving away, but really like the way Fargo is going right now. I believe it is building nicely on what used to be a great city. This area turned to trash in the 90s and is pretty much on the upswing again. Hell, even Moorhead is experiencing growth now. Now, there isn't a TON of culture(arts, etc), but it is getting A LOT better with every year. The downtown area is starting to be popular again. The design of the city itself is flawed. The older city planners have done a terrible job, especially by building the interstates far from downtown. For a large city to thrive, it needs a major thorough way to the downtown area.

After being on the job search for tech style jobs, etc, you will realize that we are REALLY underpaid up here. It's a tough thing to do anything about right now though. We get the big companies here because we are so cheap to hire, so we can't all of a sudden change our ways or the city will stop growing. Eventually, the city will attract companies(or have them established here already), just for the city and not the labor rates.

Overall, I like Fargo for the most part, and probably won't be moving anytime soon. I feel it will only get better, especially after my grandparents generation is gone so the city can actually change. I guess I will see what the next 5-10 years brings Fargo.

On a side note, I really like sushi. And other ethnic foods with actual flavor(basically anything non-American :)).

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

thrash, sorry, I was being a bit sarcastic toward the end of that (the whole post you quoted). I know most of the people I'm talking to, so they can figure out I am joking from knowing me.

Depends on what "price" you're talking about. The price their willing to work for is one thing, but I do know from personal experience that a large majority of the ones that visit East10 McDonalds bitch about everything price-related and try to scam you every possible opportunity they get. That's just my personal experiences though.

I'm pretty happy living in Fargo. I have lived in many other areas including Seattle and close to Austin as well as visited many smaller metro areas similar to Fargo-Moorhead but I came back, it feels like home here. I think sometimes non-fargoans already have an opinion before trying it out It's like since Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota so they expect something more than just a little metro area My opinion for the size and comparing to other metro areas similar in population, it is a great place to live, work and raise a family.

On a tangent, I don't know how you guys actually enjoy sushi. I went once to try it out, I went in with a open mind expecting it to be good or at least ok. bzzzz That crap is horrible, and that green paste shit that grows in your ass crack that they put on it is even worse. I seriously think that anyone who eats this stuff and enjoys it has a screw loose.

What did you get? And from where?

Seafood in general triggers my gag reflex, but oddly enough, basic sushi rolls (spicy tuna, salmon, etc) -- and ROLLS, not the straight up chunks of fish, are something i can not only handle but i actually enjoy.

You must be referring to wasabi. I like it because it has a good bit of kick to it 🙂

I grew up in MSP, moved to fargo when I was 12. I didn't notice a huge difference, just a few things that come a long with a big city.

I like Fargo, but I havn't explored this country near enough to decide if I want to live here the rest of my life. I do like the feel of the city, and I hunt/fish alot, can't get any better than where I live right now. As you get into big cities, fishing spots get crowded, hunting areas get over worked, etc etc. You have a lot of "Big City" people going out not knowing what they are doing.

It is a happy medium for me, for now.

We got a variety thing at that sushi place on 25th St, just south of 13th Ave. I love all sorts of seafood normally, maybe this was just bad stuff. Yes, the wasabi is the taint of all food toppings. I like food with kick too, but this stuff reminds me of a mixture of turpentine and garlic powder.

That's Yukihana. AFAIK, it means "Snow Flower" in Japanese. I think the owners are Korean, actually 🙂

It's too bad you dont like that place, I think it's quite good. Including the wasabi 🙂

Next time you go back try having one of the non-sushi setups.. they've got plenty of other good stuff.

That's one thing I did miss being out of the metro. Good chinese food places. Except for some reason, I did find a good place in St. Cloud. Otherwise Minnesota has jack shit that I'm aware of.

I like Fargo because we don't have crazy ass crime, it's just big enough where everyone and their mom doesn't have their nose up your business yet small enough to know a lot of people and have some fun. Oh yeah, that and lots of restuarants to help me maintain my championship form.

                                        Why do I like Fargo?

I'm from 30 miles south of here. In 1995 or so, I moved to Waterloo, IA for the company I have worked for since 1986. After a few months of living there I declared it the...

                                        "ARM PIT OF AMERICA"

...and vowed that if I could get back to Fargo I would. Granted, there were some good things about the city, but not enough to mention here.

Thankfully, the company I worked for had the opening that I currently occupy and was able to move back.

Now, I have traveled somewhat over the years and there is really no better place to live and work than Fargo.

Unlike the places that I have visited...people of quality live here and that is enough for me.

CMK, still got the :icon_rr: ? I've been missing the Bdubs for awhile.
