That car needs a transmission rebuild and a tune. It was running on a SAFC which is just a bandaid. The fact that it needs a syncro tells me that it has been beaten on, especially considering the fact that it has 88k. The seller also says that it has some engine problems. I wouldn't buy it, but thats just me. I would look for something that doesn't have any problems.

Well, I'm looking for a bit of a project that I can tinker with and that seems like a good base. How much would a syncro and a lifter cost me and what is involved in replacing one?

DSM's aren't something that you tinker with, it is a full time job, or you have to have a full time job to pay for someone else to tinker with them.

Lol...yea with all the horror stories that I've heard of with those cars it would be almost crazy to go out and buy one, but I've always loved those GSX's and I would not mind getting one.

Valvetrain stuff is pretty easy if you know what you are doing. Why did the lifter go out though?

As far as the transmission, I am not sure how much that would cost. Unless you have a garage and are mechanically inclined, you will need to have someone else replace that syncro.

Well, I wouldn't have any problem fixing the tranny because my dad worked on airplanes for the coast guard for 13 years so he's bound to know something about them. We also have a three car garage so we could easily get this car up and running...

Regardless, you are looking at a car that has been flogged hard. For a tranny to have a syncro going out at only 88k means that it hasn't been treated nicely. It just seems to me that you are buying someone else's problems. If you are willing to put the money and time into it to fix it right, thats great. Do remember though, a car like that will be a money pit and you will have to put in a lot of time to fix it.

That's true, I just sent him an e-mail asking him to make a quick vid of the car idling and then another one of the car driving so I can listen to the car and see what's up...He says it runs and drives so if he messages me back and tells me that it doesn't drive, than it's going down the tubes. When I get the vid's I will post them...assuming he makes them.

Buy a unmodded car and save alot of time messing with other poeples ghetto mods and stuff like that. 100% is IMO the only way to buy a car unless you know the car.

Yea, your all right...I'm not sure I would be interested in the civic wagon because it's the wrong year and wrong style. I'm looking for a 96+ Civic hatch and it's got to be a 5spd or a GST-GSX 5 spd with a good price...of course with the DSM I won't find anything for the price range that I'm looking in...
