is there a way to check computer temps without a meter hooked up to it.... im curious because i think either my graphics card or computer might be running a little hot.

the fan keeps kickin in full blast for extended time, and blows alot of hot/warm air out, so far i have had no crashes so i dont think its overheating, just running a little warm.

on board BIOS will do that for you....

also download motherboard monitor 5 (latest release) it will be a bit more graphical, and also, you can use it while running other programs to graph your progress, if you believe it is your video card however, it is best to consult with the manufacturer of the card, or find a 3rd party driver that may come coupled with software that could monitor for you as well.

Hop on over to http://www.cnet.com/downloads or google up Tech Republic: MBM 5

I have a program, downloaded the free trial that can moniter everything. Its geared more for laptops tho. It is called Notebook Hardware Control 2.0

I use it to overclock my notebook. Runs at 1.7 ghz over the 600 mhz its supposed to be running, it does run a little hotter do to the higher speeds of everything but it also controls the fan and will warn you if things get too hot.

If you'd like could you also post what kind of CPU you have?

Different proc's like to run a little bit different for environments, now you will have to bare with me as I don't pay attention to any kind of modern "enthusiast" hardware anymore, I'm a cisco guy, so I deal with asics all day, and the cpu equipment/environments are far different then yours, but this will be a good baseline for you.

in your BIOS, there should be an option to have your PC shut down when it gets to a certain temperature. If you are having concerns of it overheating, go check that out and see what temp its at. If it's disabled, enable it.

Also, take the side of your case off and stick a box fan in it. Thats what I did. I am a big gamer so all my shit is overclocked to beat hell.. which in return gives me very high temps.. So I just stuck a standard box fan right next to it.. and problem is solved 😃

His concern was with his graphics card, I don't think a threshold switch on his BIOS will really care about his GPU.

Like I said please, refer to my previous statement.

Newer BIOS's have options to have your computer shut off if the GPU gets to warm. Mine does at least.

But with an eMachines, Probably not.

Put your hand on the GPU and see if it feels real warm. Normally, they won't be "cold", but they will have a little temp to them. If it feels real hot, It's overheating. You will need to add more fans into your case, but if there is no more room for additional fans, do as i suggested before and put a box fan next to it.

GPU = Graphical Processing Unit, CPU is what you are referring to, unless you have a magical pixie fairy that does that for you via the south bridge controller temperature senor, I however - have not found this magical pixie fairy.

Pretty sure I know what a GPU and a CPU is.

I won't bother to start another arguement on these forums as I've been banned 3 times already for it.

cpu usage with just a little stuff running only hits max of 7%, it mostly does this when a game is running.

                              CPU USAGE
                              about 7%
highest i saw it reach with counterstrike source launched is 21%

                              PF USAGE
                              about 370 MB
and with CSS its 545 MB

                              TOTALS

I guarntee you hit higher then 21% CPU usage playing CS

If your only having this happen during gaming, and you installed a new PS / Video card, the reason the fan noise increases is due to more draw on the power...

                                  It's pretty normal.... ?

ATITool should be able to tell you about your gpu temps. it can stress test your card and tell you about your max temps and also any errors. I personally run a thermaltake vga cooler, it keeps my card cool as a damn cucumber, even overclocked.

well i did figure one thing out.....

my power source fan barely works, so i think if i replace that then my computer temps should drop....

im guessing all the extra heat from that power source is being pumped into the rest of the computer instead of out of it, and is making the cpu hot and making the fans go crazy.
