Out of curiosity, why do you say that ? i have used an off the air hd antenna going on a year now on both my tv's, i like it, the only issue is in fargo/ moorhead area you have to point the antenna north north east if you can (the signal is directional), and it helps if you are able to get it up high. other than that it has exelent picture, as hd should. kvly and kxjb want to charge cable one to brodcast their signal, which makes no sense within the normal viewing area (within a hundred to hundred fifty miles) because imo, if you can get it off the air why the hell should cable service be charged to serve it to their customers, it is free-to-air, which means no matter who gets it it should be free, cableones issue is if they have to pay for it then they will have to pass the buck, which would cost the customer more. Their point by dropping the stations from the linup is to enrage the customers and make the stations see the light when their ratings drop, and hope the customers will contact the stations, in turn pressuring those stations into keeping it free-to-air.
it is a power struggle is what it amounts to, if anything airing it on cable is only benifiting the stations themselves by getting them out there to customers who might not have, or be able to put up an antennae.

I've lived in two places, where its NEARLY impossible to get any HD signal (I live in the twin cities though) over the air.

Even with powered antenna amps etc...

Even when a channel does manage to come in, i hate the pixelation stuff that happens from a low signal (ghosting etc), and how the whole thing just randomly cuts out...

Cable One is a ripoff. They are for sure losing some customers.

Big deal...do you actually subscribe to it? I get just as many channels as DTV and pay less. 🙂

I'm wondering what is the rates for a DTV setup
I'd want DVR and High-Def capability
                                    Is setup free?
What would my monthly rates be?

If you do DirecTV right now, you pay $199 for the HD/DVR receiver (thats after a $100 discount), and depending on the channel package and other receivers you pick, will end up spending probably about the same as Cable One, but have way more HD channels.

For instance right now I have Cable One, and have 2 HD/DVR receivers and just the regular HD programming, and its $90/mo. If I did DirecTv with the HD/DVR and service, plus 2 extra standard receivers (can watch tv in 3 seperate rooms then), it ends up being $80/mo plus tax. For the first year you get $10/mo off which is nice. And then they also give you 3 movie channels free for 3 months (but I'm sure they'll charge you if you don't call to cancel it). So even if it ends up being the same price, there will be way more than Cable One's lame ass 6 or 7 HD channels. I know I'll be calling to get this set up soon.
