Computer help

So a while back I tried booting up my desktop and got no display. Bought a new video card because I tried the old one on a different monitor and it still didn't work. Put the new video card in a got no display again. Computer boots up, fans all go and still nothing....any suggestions?

reread your thread a few times, nevermind what i said previously.
if you don't get any beep codes on power on self test (POST) but you don't get any display even on a known good monitor, I would suspect the video bus has gone south. you can try the old video card in a known working computer, but if it works or doesn't, chances are the video bus on your PC is bad. try the new video card on another computer too just to be sure, it probably works, but you never know. in any case you are going to need a new motherboard, and I would replace the power supply as well, as a common cause of video card failure is bad voltage (can cause overheating, etc).

Is there an onboard videocard as well? If so, perhaps it is set to default?? (I haven't owned a mobo w/ an onboard card in years....can't remember what has to happen for it to work w/ an outboard card)
Also, might be worth resetting the cmos (should be a jumper on your mobo somewhere)...find out what MOBO you have and check its reset instructions.
