well guys, i finally decided to do it. I joined the air guard.

I am leaving for basic training on April 28th for 6 weeks then after that proceeding to tech school for another 13 weeks down in texas. I should be back around Sept. or Oct. ish.... just in time for my 21st birthday on Nov. 9th. I joined as a firefighter and will be commiting 6 years to the guard, maybe more depending on how much i like it.... and if i like firefighting enough i might get a job for the city of Fargo on the civilian side of firefighting.

The real question is.... what will i buy when i return from basic..... im thinking finally turbo my car and rebuild the motor a bit, or.... buy an 04 Mini Cooper or an 04 RX-8.

Congratulations Greg. I just went through the AF's basic so if you have any questions just ask. All I can say is keep your head low, try not to screw up, and just get past all the bullshit. People get recycled like crazy for the stupidest shit. You are based on weeks of training there. I've seen people get to their 6th week of training when they are getting ready to grad, and they get recycled back to 1st. That's worst case scenario. 4th week of training is fun and sucks all at the same time. Warrior week. Have fun with devils mile and a half and the gas chamber which isn't even all that bad. Again, it's just about getting past all the bs. Good luck man.

hey, ive always wanted to join the air force just because my brother in law told me alot about it and its sounds like an amazing experience. does anyone have a guess on the chances of being stationed locally instead of being thrown down to arizona or other areas?

You probably have a really good chance because no one wants to come here. Go talk to a recruiter.

Good choice man. I've always liked the Airforce, they are the only branch of the military that makes their officers do all (ok...majority) of the fighting.

For those of you wondering how likely it is to get to come back home, it's 100% guarenteed if you join the guard. As far as Acitive duty, it all depends on the job you land, and even then it's no guarentee's that you'll even qualify to go to Grand Forks or Minot.

ya the air guard is the way to go if you want short deployments or rare deployments.... and a garuntee to stay in your local area.
