my coworker just loaned me this film... and it is an overwhelming "bad". in fact, it is so bad that it can't even entice me to watch beyond the first four minutes. sure, maybe that wasn't enough time to really become engaging, but the dialogue eclipsed the stupidity of napoleon dynamite (which had the saving grace of at least being kind of funny).

can anyone else offer anything to explain what all the hype about this film was?

The hype of the film was all in the advertising way before it even came out. JJ Abrams and everyone who worked on the movie released almost no information about the movie before it was released, except for a few small teasers. There were people who were literally obsessed about putting all the little clues together to figure out the 'great mystery.' I don't think the movie lived up to the hype at all, but it was still good enough to sit through the whole thing, especially in HD.

I made it about 4 minutes as well. Took me until I found out what was attacking the city. As soon as I knew, the movie was worthless.

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

The beginning is so SLOW and boring. I kind of liked the rest after the attacks start.

Holy bad. With all the hype they put behind it before it came out, they had a great opportunity to do SOMETHING with it, but nope. The thing i didn't like is you sat through all that shaky camera bullshit, and never even got a good look at the damn creature thing.

Original doesn't always mean good. I really did not care for the Blair witch project.

I thought Cloverfield was ok. I wasn't super hyped to see it though, so that may have changed my view on it.
