Fargo police arrested a suspect Tuesday in the armed robbery of the Town & Country Credit Union in West Fargo.
Police arrested Matthew C. Becker, 18, while he was riding as a passenger in a vehicle in the 2400 block of First Avenue North, said West Fargo Detective Joe Birrenkott.
The robbery at 925 14th Ave. E. took place Monday afternoon.
Becker was living temporarily in West Fargo, Birrenkott said.
Some, but not all, of the money taken in the robbery has been recovered, Birrenkott said. He said he could not release the amount taken.
Birrenkott said a weapon was also recovered that matched the description of a black handgun allegedly displayed in the robbery.
Birrenkott said the high-quality video from the credit union, distribution of the video and photos by local media, and close cooperation between Fargo and West Fargo police helped break the case quickly.
“We were getting a tremendous amount of tips,” Birrenkott said.
Birrenkott said a Fargo officer helped identify Becker as the suspect.
Fargo police did not have any information to add Tuesday evening.
Becker was being held in Cass County Jail on Tuesday night. Bail has not yet been set for him, a jail official said.
During Monday’s robbery, the robber took money, put it into a plastic bag with drawstrings, then fled on foot to the southeast, jumping over a residential fence, police said.
A dog tracked the suspect for a short distance, then lost the scent, police said.
