actually guys as of right now their is a petition going around to all tribal members to allow the members of the tribe to vote on this matter. i can guarantee that enough people sign UND will keep its nickname and guys i apologize on behalf of my culture how ignorant some of us can be on just a name.

The thing is dude its not just your tribe that is making the decisions. Out of 30 idividual groups of natives. A majority has to approve the nickname. I do not see that happening

Im a huge sioux fan and like someone said doesnt matter what the name changes to, but i will always call them the fighting sioux. ek701... Hard to read but well put. I think I posted on this topic somewhere back when it was first announced. IMHO people need to pull their heads out their 5th point of contact. This is just another example of "political correctness" going to far. Yes terms can be used offensively. I understand this. I agree that certain terms should not be used. On the same token I think people need to chill out as well.

Example: I have a friend from back home that I've known almost all my life. He is mentaly challenged. He cracks jokes almost all day long. I asked him once why he isn't offended by the kind of jokes that he is telling. His reply, "I am mentally challenged and these jokes are funny as all hell. If I can laugh at them why can't everyone else."

Seriously, how the hell long is it before it get's to the point that calling somebody blonde is going to far...
