E-85 + 6262 + Weather
-
Guys,
I just installed a new turbo (PTE 6262) And drove around and my car runs like shit on E-85. Does anyone run on E-85 in the winter? If so does it run fine?I just need different cams and Ignition and should be in the 600+ hp world.
SLS thanks for the Killer deal on the turbo and O2 housing. I'll post pics soon.

Ya bastard, you beat me to the punch on the PTE6262....

winter blend e85 is not 85% ethanol usually. you'll probably want to mix your own during the winter or buy a barrel from someone.

In addition to the winter-mix blend being different [and thus delivery requirements and effective octane being different], ethanol has poorer cold-start characteristics than gasoline, which is the reason they do a winter blend to begin with. I think winter E85 is more like E70.

Yea, i believe you got tuned in end of July/beginning of August correct kevin? That is about the 1-2 months of the year that we actually have E85. The rest of summer/spring/fall is E75-80, and from about October to April it is E70 which will be about 100 octane and have different fuel requirements as well. Do you have a wideband in the car? It would probably be best to get tuned in spring or fall, and that way you are middle of the road. You could make some changes yourself if you are comfortable doing so, or Ron could take care of it in about an hour I would guess.

I do have a wideband set up in my car. I just feel that ever since going to E-85 my car has ran like shit other than full throttle.. Always dies ... I may have a stuck IAC senor from running meth injection a while back.. When it left the dyno it wouldnt idle... and was told the computer would teach its self to idle... Ive been waiting a long time now... hahah

How do your AFRs look at idle/cruise?? And how about under boost?? If you want, I could take a look at it and try to help you get it idling a bit better.
Side note, my car idles/runs beatifully on E85 as soon as the engine warms up, and that is with a 1/2 functioning IACV, although I never really drive it below probably 45* anymore.

Air Fuel didnt register it was that bad under highway driving.. Thats means it was way rich or way lean.. Doen anyone have the cable and software to reflash evos?

Something doesn't seem right, the stock ecu should compensate for most of that to at least get it decent. Get some new fuel in there, and make sure all of your sensors are working correctly. Call ron up and ask him what could be causing that, I doubt he messed with temperature compensations much from stock, and those should at least keep it reasonable. You may also want to try blocking off your intercooler and hood vent with cardboard to see if increasing coolant/intake temps helps at all. Does it run ok starting it inside when it is warm?

i was making a joke referencing the incident a few years ago with your broken rear differential (if i remember correctly). if it's the case that this new configuration (that makes more power than your old stuff) runs like poo, perhaps we could expect to see your car die on the drag strip (resulting in a slower 1/4 time).
