I definitely agree. Though it does sound like a government mandate so I'm not sure how the rest of the republican party will feel about it.

Kinda like when Obama has stated that he wanted a mandatory community service program in place. In theory it's a great thing to get people involved in their community and to take responsibility for making their community a better place. However, I recall some very conservative members of this board being 100% against it because it would be mandated.

Both ideas (the one you presented and Obama's) are good but both involve government getting involved in everyone's personal life even more. Now if we could just convince them to do it without making it mandatory....

Israel and other countries have mandatory military service, why not here?

First, the dudes voice bothers the fuck out of me. It's like he's trying to get me in his van by offering me candy in a soothing tone.

Other than that I feel that this would be a great idea. I am 100% in support of mandatory community service for students. Young people need to see and experience first hand how tough life can be by volunteering at soup kitchens, seeing how much our veterans give for us to helping out at a VA hospital, or how much work really goes in to the food they eat by helping pull vegetables at a local sustainable food donation plot.

Obviously this shows that I am very passionate that the United States needs to become a country about helping out others and giving what you can. We're slowly becoming a culture that says "fuck you, you lazy bum" instead of understanding what it's like to be homeless. A little bit of philanthropy can go a long way and if it became a staple of American culture and day to day life, imagine how much our quality of life would improve, for everyone.

Good question. Again, I'm all for it. Though it will mean a major increase in people on the federal payroll.

He didn't say anything about paying them, lol! I believe it would be a benefit to the Federal and state governments to require military training before getting unemplyment checks.

Although I agree with you to some extent.. helping your neighbor out, ect... The whole helping the "poor homeless" guys out..? The ones who make a grand a week begging on the corner all while giving a bad name to those who have legitimately fell upon unthinkable circumstances? Sorry, no. These individuals are indeed lazy fucking bums.

Ask Gundar about his experiences with homeless people. Maybe he can chime in

This is such a misconception/rumor about homeless people, and to generalize all homeless people into that category is very inaccurate. You will never meet someone who does that successfully. This is the exact mentality he was talking about, not knowing what its like to be dealt the shit end of the stick.

Reminds me of Louis C.K.'s rant on Conan, "We live in, in an amazing, amazing world and it's wasted on the, on the crappiest generation of just spoiled idiots that don't care because, this is what people are like now."

I think we could all use a little perspective...

No one will force me to become a mindless order following killing machine against my will. Become an unknowing automaton to participate in corporatocracy's oppression of the poor? We are supposed to forgive our enemies and bless them, turn the other cheek. Not train ourselves to become ignorant murderers and revel in how awesome man made weapons of oppression and death make pop and bang noises. Mandatory military service? Over my dead flesh body.

                            One time...

                                  A FOUNDATION:

                                  Mark 4:9
Then Jesus said “He who has ears let him hear.”

                                  John 8:47
“He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

                                  John 10:14-17
“I am the good shepherd. I know my sheep and my sheep know me- (just as the Father knows me and I know the Father)- and I lay my life down for the sheep. The reason the Father loves me is that I lay down my life -only to take it up again.”

                                  John 5:24
“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed over from death to life. I tell you the truth, a time is coming and has now come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself. And he has given him authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice and come out . Those who have done good will rise to live, and those who have done evil will rise to be condemned. By myself I can do nothing. I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who I sent me.”

                                  John 7:16-18
Jesus answered “My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me. If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God or whether I speak on my own. He who speaks on his own does so to gain honor for himself, but he who works for the honor of the one who sent him is a man of truth, there is nothing false about him.”

                                  Luke 12:4-12
“I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that CAN DO NO MORE. But I will show you whom you SHOULD fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has the power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, FEAR HIM. Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. DO NOT be afraid, you ARE worth more than many sparrows.”

“I tell you, whoever acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God. But he who disowns me before men will be disowned before the angels of God. And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”

“When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

                                  LOVE FOR ENEMIES:

                                  Luke 6:27-36
“But I tell you who hear me: LOVE your enemies. DO GOOD to those who hate you. BLESS those who curse you. PRAY for those that mistreat you.”

(Then Jesus gives us a scenario) -> If someone strikes you on the cheek, turn to him the other also. If someone takes your cloak, do not stop him from taking your tunic. Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. Do to others as you would have them do to you.”
(people love to extract this last sentence out of context to support their own views)
(Now this next part is important here) “If you (only) love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ love those who love them. And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you do good to those who are (only) good to you, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinners’ do that. And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even ‘sinner’s lend to ‘sinners,’ expecting to be paid in full.”

(The Instruction) “But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.”

(The Promise if we do so) “Then your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.”

(Another Instruction) “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”

                                  Matthew 5:38-48
“You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ But I tell you, DO NOT resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to them the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: LOVE your enemies and PRAY for those that persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil AND the good, and sends rain on the righteous AND the unrighteous. If you love only those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if YOU greet only YOUR brothers, what are YOU doing more than others?! Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (If being perfect sounds too tough for you that’s because it is, but with God all things are possible.)

My fellow masterpieces of God (that’s you), there is SO much more on this in the Word of God. His instructions and expectations are clear. It is time to stop spewing things like YOU know them and turn toward home. Live in the word, and the word shall live in you.

(My Prayer for those reading this) Thank you lord for the opportunity to glorify you. I pray and thank you that those reading this would have their spiritual eyes opened, and they would be surrounded by and know your love and presence. I thank you that you will give them understanding, wisdom, and discernment. I thank you that you will move in their life in a way that will bring them back to you. In Christ Jesus name I pray AMEN!

Your ignorant attitude you have now will mean eternal separation from God's love, otherwise known as hell. Please please please change your attitude. Heaven will be the best party you can imagine then take it to the power of infinity! And take it from a former addict, there is NOTHING that compares to his presence. NOTHING.
