Rant about the cruise.
-
I'm not a person who cruises. I'm not a person who hangs out with the local car scene, I like the cars, but the whole attitude that often comes with the cars pisses me off. Anyway, I did decide to connect with the cruise last night, and it wasn't too bad, except for one thing. When everyone was at Kmart the cops showed up. They didn't approach us, they didn't have their lights on, they didn't tell us to leave, yet everyone scattered like a scene out of a street racing video. Most people were just walking to their cars, but I saw quite a few full out panic and run like a tornado was behind them, all I could do is laugh. Personally I think that makes us look more suspicious than if we would have stood around until they asked us to leave or until they decided that we weren't doing anything wrong and they left. Maybe things have changed and everyone has become afraid of talking to cops but this isn't how it used to be. We used to wait until the cops would show up (generally like 5-10 cop cars), they would wander through the lot and make sure there was no drinking/drugs/fighting and if anyone was smoking they would check ID, if they asked us to leave, we would, but more often than not they would see that there was nothing wrong taking place and they would leave. Hell one night we even brought a couple grills down to the lot and when the cops showed up they got free supper. I don't know how anyone else will feel about this but I'm sure everyone's response will probably be the same as every time I post (eg. you suck, you are retarded, this thread is pointless, ect...). I would like people to actually respond to this in a MATURE manner so I can figure out what the hell has changed in the last 5 years.

I was there when the cop showed up and I left shortly after because it was cold and I had to buy some beer.

i wasnt there the other night, but ive been to meets where its happened.. and i totally agree. when people run away of course its going to make you look suspicious. i think its just a natural thing though. kinda like when youre driving and you see a cop, its natural to slow down even when youre not speeding.
as long as youre not doing anything wrong, theres no need to go running. im sure they just wanted to make sure nobody was doing anything wrong. and if you were doing something wrong, you shouldnt have been there in the first place.
EDIT: 1000th post.

Exactly, if someone feels uncomfortable around the cops they can get in their car and leave, but we really don't need people yelling "Oh shit dude the cops, go, go, go!!!" as they are running to their cars (yes, I did see that happen last night).

at the begining of the cruzing season the cops gave us a set of rules to follow. i guess i should have posted them before. but here they are
this is from the cops mouth1 park in the parking spots, no parking in the drive lanes
2 no littering, pick up after ur self
3 dont do brunouts in and out of the lot
4 this is what the cops stressed the most no fighting -
well, i've been a regular so far this year when cruising and it all depends usually. i have been out and we have talked to the cops and we have been both kicked out and let stay. i have also been out and we have scattered when the cops cames. i guess it all depends if someone freaks out and yells cops lets go everyone goes to the vehicles and leaves, but if no one overreacts then we can have a convo with the cops and see whats going on. case and point, a couple weekends ago we were in kmart parking lot and the girl cop came in the lot and she went and talked to one group of people, then she came over and talked to us and we just had a convo with her and she was wondering what we were all up too.

I was the one yelling "oh shit we got cops go go go" sorry dude, it was me making fun of everyone running to there cars. The reason everyone ran to their cars is because A. it was cold and B. No one wanted to be left out of the cruise. The cops was going to tell us to leave within 3 minutes anyways, why not just make it easier and leave. That way, we don't got stupid people saying, "dude, we can stay here if we want" and gay things of that sort.

Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I see no reason to give cops a hard time. For every time they "harass" somebody when there is nothing wrong there are 100 times as many situations where something bad happens. I see it as a privilege that we are allowed to gather in parking lots, not a right. I'm just speaking my mind here and not necessarily addressing anything previously posted in this thread.
