There is nothing safe in the way it is mounted. Harnesses are meant to be mounted to HARNESS BARS.

only thing he's missing is duct tape really...

ya know, at the very least if you were planning to run a harness that mounts in that style, buy a harness designed for that!

and yeah, stock seatbelts are fine for anything I plan on doing any time soon. (unless I suddenly start running 11s or take up serious auto-x)

I dont even see why people would want 5 point harnesses in a slow ass car. I have them in mine and they are a fucking pain in my ass and uncomfortable to drive in.

oh I'm sure, tied down that tight (as appropriate) for any period of time wouldn't make for a good trip.
Only reason I'd want them in my slow ass car would be to keep my fat ass planted on an auto-x course.

They discontinued the long strap style because it streches too much in accidents, this is how it is to be mounted if there is no harness bar, i have done my research on this. It is to be mounted using a chain so it will not strech if it is being mounted to the rear of the car.

[rant]QUIT THE FUCKING WHINING. THE SEATBELTS ARE MOUNTED ILLEGALLY, IF YOU GET IN AN ACCIDENT YOUR BACK IS FUCKED. THE COP GAVE YOU A TICKET BECAUSE OF THIS. COPS ARE OUT THERE DOING THEIR JOBS, LIKE I SAID BEFORE: DON'T DO ILLEGAL SHIT AND THE COPS WON'T BOTHER YOU. God I am sick of the whiney 5th grade attitude around here. Oh yea, and harnesses in anything slower than 11 sec. is just completely retarded. [/rant]

Actually, the cop didnt give me a ticket because of how it is mounted at all. He said it was mounted correctly. he was actually impressed that someone was smart enough not to mount it straight to the floor. He just doesnt know if the actual harness is legal for street use. He even said "your setup is safer than a stock belt, but Im just not sure if harnesses are legal or not if you dont have a modified vehicle permit."

if it weren't for this thread I would not have seen the chain setup, whether it is legal or not it looks micky mousey, btw did I read that it is 5 point? my understanding is 4 point is legal 5 point is not. When you find out that would be a good thing to post for all of us.

Both 4 and 5 point harnesses should be legal on a street car providing that they have a D.O.T. tag on them and that they are fastened directly to the chassis of the vehicle whether it be at the factory location or to a roll cage that is directly and permanently attached to the vehicle chassis. Someone correct me if I am wrong. But in any case, the chains are not legal on the street or on ANY track for that matter.
