what the hell is the fascination with flying robot decals? of course I guess you could call me old school, because I want my car ot look as clean as possible.

I mean, flying robots? come on! thats pretty gay.

while Im at it, I really do not understand single wiper conversions, fart can exhausts, led windsheild washer lights, carbon fibre anything unless your a race car driver, FAKE BOV's, people claiming 11's on the street..... I just dont understand.... I guess I have a problem wih rice in general. Im a performance first, look later kind of guy.

If I have offended anyone in my rant and you fee the need to gripe about it, just remember I dont care and I still think you are "teh gay".

    McAdam

p.s. if you run 11's on the street fine, but there are a lot that claim it and oculdnt turn a sub 15. Ive been in 11 sec street cars, it was pants crappingly fast. most people would not know an 11sec 1/4 time if it bit them on the ass.

Nitrous is kind of like a hot chick with STD's.... You know you wanna hit it, but you're afraid of the consequences!

To each his own I guess. I personally happen to like CF because it looks better than a plane ol' painted OEM hood. Not everybody wants to make a race car which seems that some of people on here is the ONLY thing to do with a car. Yes some people go to far with there choice of visual mods, I being one of them, but I'm comin' around and got rid of my wing, but some people just want to make there car stand out and get noticed, which apparenty many have by the frequent use of the "who was that?" thread. I do agree with fake BOV and people claiming shit they didn't do, that's just stupid. As far as a "fart can", many people just like the sound of the exhaust themselves, they could careless what everbody else thinks and what exactly is a "fart can"? Damn near every damn magazine,tv show, video, or movie I've seen, even the high end names like Greddy,HKS and Blitz fit everybodies visual description of a fart can. Most of the people that do the mods that all of us gripe about are doing it for there driving experience and pleasure, some of which are quite funny and outrageous though. As far as the flying robots thing, most of us as kids liked robots at one point of our childhood so there's the old school factor, also with the huge surge of anime on the american market theres the japanese and cartoons influence both. Hell, I like anime, it's better than most of the bland american toons, excluding the clasics of coarse like looney toons. I myself have a tranformers autobot logo on my windshield, you be suprised how many people notice that and are like, cool is that a transformers sticker.

I won't go into the anime subject besides what I already said, So if anybody wants to discuss it we can start a new thread.

          Done.

Edited out the stuff I agree with you on...ok....How can you say you are performance 1st and not like CF? Lowering body weight is the single best thing you can do to improve nearly every aspect of performance....you accelerate faster, brake faster, corner better and get better gas mileage anytime you can shed a few pounds from your car....especially rotating mass (CF Driveshafts for example). Every 100 lbs shaved can increase your 1/4 mile time by .1 seconds. To call CF rice is rather ridiculous. Rice (at least in my definition) is something that is put on the car that serves no real function and/or looks like complete ass. SOME showcars are really ricey, but the best ones look awesome because they are done right with each part complimenting the other parts.

this thread tends to go along with the kids these days type of thing
i think its alot to do with a generational gap but you may not be older just of the mentality of the muscle car era per say i dont really know you well enough to form that opinion but i think its alot of way younger than us kids with mommys civic that do the kinds of things your talking about or have a car that its tough to go performance on it so aside from the carbon fibre i think its an age group thing i mean did we all start out like that and just proceed to the clean look when we got older?

2mm of carbon fibre in some tests has had the tensile stregnth of 2 inches of steel

like my hood held up beautifully in my accident so thats why i put another on

yes, the flying robots thing is from the gay and the curious. there are several cars around town with them on the doors. A black oldsmobile alero comes to mind, as well as an accord, if I recall correctly.

on the carbon fibre note, that should be one of the LAST things you do to your car, as a $700 carbon fibre hood will not improve your handling (for those claiming weight reduction) nearly as much as a $700 suspension kit.

If you are after carbon for the bling bling factor, hey whatever floats your boat, just dont be claiming that you are a tuner and that your ride is mad fast, yo.

a lil info on myself.... I am 25 yrs old and have NEVER been about wings, chrome or lights. not even when I was 17 and just got my first Z car. I can see a front air dam and some headlight covers along with nice rims, but lighting, a gawdy kit, faux carbon fibre spoilers and a car festooned with more chrome shit and lights than a christmas tree, how can you think that looks cool>?

If you have an 11 sec car, more power to you, its the douche bags like that kid in the red avenger thread running aroung in mommys Impala (or was it malibu?) claiming 11 sec's that really piss me off. I dunno, sorry to rant but ricers have just been pissing me off lately......

you are right, doing that by itself will not help nearly as much as a suspension kit will, but a suspension kit won't help (much) for gas mileage or braking either. CF helps a little in all areas. A CF driveshaft can help tremendously w/ the reduction of rotating mass which will help your acceleration. Your argument on CF being a bling bling thing is like me saying that paint is useless on fiberglass/aluminum cars. All it does is add style (and technically weight...though minimal). So why don't you just go strip all your paint off your bumpers since there is no practical use other than for bling bling? And in reality, there is no point in buying anything other than a geo metro for basic transportation, cuz anything that does more than drive you around is being ricey because it looks better than a geo.

As for those of us that do decide to go the weight reduction route (though admittedly mine is 100% for show purposes, I shaved .1 lbs) CF is one of the few ways to shed weight and still look decent as it looks better than a stripped interior. Ideally I'd like to be 100% carbon fiber from front to rear (hood, fenders, doors, rear 1/4's, trunk, bumpers, sideskirts, roof, dash, seats, everything...hell, even unibody if I could)

I don't agree. I'm 20, had my car since 16. I think people just like what they like, thats it. You will find 40 year olds who like civics, you will find a 20 year old that likes a 32 ford. Problem is, a 40 year old generally can afford more car than a civic, and a 20 year old can rarely afford a 32 ford.

I must concur with Chuck on the weight loss making your car perform alot quicker. Look at what Tufte did with the Integra the my bud bought. Completely stock non VTEC engine with C.A.I and 65 shot and hit 13.1 with slicks. That's nearly 12's with nothing else done other than lightening the car.

yes, weight loss will make your car perfrom better in most areas, but carbon fibre should be one of the last things you do if you are serious about performance. I mean, a carbon fibre hood will cut maybe 20 lbs vs STEEL if you are lucky, and in some cases can actually weigh more than aluminum! (ive seen it happen). I never said that carbon fibre WAS bling bling, thats just what some people buy it for, cause it looks "cool". yes, a carbon fibre driveshaft will help with rotating mass and accelleration and everything, I just think its one of the LAST things you should do, not the first.

I've seen the affects of weight loss first hand. I know someone in phoenix that has an H22 swapped accord that has been GUTTED and he is in the 12's. On a side note, a car with slicks and a 65 shot of giggle gas has a little more than weight reduction to thank for a low ET.

this thread is really more about the people that have an attitude that their car is hot shit just because it has clear taillights and a wing on the back. If you have something to back it up, fine, just dont go revving your fart pipe at me just because I looked over at your lane.

Yes but the quarter mile times wouldn't have been near as low as they were without the huge weight loss. Even with a measily shot of N2O and CAI. The car dyno'd 168 hp to the wheels. by no means should those #'s reproduced those times, but they did.

I don't remember that car having any carbon fibre on it? Oh, and Nick bought it how it was, for the most part:) Obviously losing weight makes your car faster, F=MA, mass gets smaller, acceleration gets larger with the same force 😄 Sorry wes, had to do it, haha. Anyways, I somewhat agree with McAdam on some of the things. Gutting out a Honda and putting CF parts on a car and 2 different things. If you want to make a cheap, quick car, gutting the crap out of it is a good way to go about it. I do like the look of CF, but it is not the best way to go about getting a quicker car. There are much more effective ways to get quicker before going to CF panels and stuff.

Chuck, make your car all CF, that would be bomb. I will not help you pay for it though.

Why not, it'll only cost a few thousand dollars...

Actually, that is kinda the plan, put as much CF into it as I can...all four doors and fenders are on my wishlist for now anyway.....still a LOOONNGGGGG ways out!
