Yeah, but that doesn't answer my question.

I was wondering if the dealer test fired it, or they break 'em in from the factory. A lot of places do this.

Most cars have atleast a few miles on them... you never see something with 0 miles on it

Exactly, which is why I was wondering how much more damage 7 miles would do.

the car has 5 miles on it. I think 4 are from the test track that subaru uses after the car is assembled.

oh and driving it @ 4k rpm is harder on the motor than idling it off a trailer.

              How so?

And who says you have to drive it at 4K?

because when you are driving you are putting load on the motor. Plus if Shane drove it he would just keep driving it and we would never get to work on it.

that and it will make some sweet before and after pics.

Haha, yup... and to Chuck's comment earlier that they don't need to rehone it? I disagree, I would definately hone it, it has been ran and within the first few seconds a lot of the fresh surface will be cut down.

And for driving it back to the shop, wouldn't make much of a difference, if anyone has ever been to a auto. plant, they definately don't drive them nice off the line.

Anyways, looks like a sweet car! Can't wait to see what they do with it.

Yeah the miles of driving it back are completly irrelevant. Motors should be fully broken in w/in the 1st 100 miles anyways. If you plan to dump new rings in there you gotta rehone it. It'd be stupid not to being it'd take a whole whopping 20 min.

Every motor we have ever done has not been broken in more than 30 miles before it has seen full boost/abuse and they all still run perfect today. Nates DSM motor say the dyno w/ a whopping 23 miles on it and left the dyno w/ 450whp and 48 miles on it. My motor saw 30 psi w/ 25 miles on it and still runs today 5 years later in another car.

"Just because you know it all doesn't mean you can do it all"

"If you can't afford to do it right the first time can you afford to do it a second time?"

Ok, maybe I was wrong about not having to rehone...i typed in a hurry this morning before going to a show. How about there will be less machine work required to resurface the cylinder walls if you keep the mileage to an absolute minimum?

Also (not related at all to what I quoted above), subaru strongly recommends keeping the rpm's below 4k RPM for the first 500-1000 miles (first oil change basically). Actually, I think they can void warranty if it has been pushed hard from the get go, I believe it has something to do with the breakin oil that they use, but I could be wrong.

At any rate, I look forward to seeing this car when it is completed. I just hope (for their sake) that they don't blow something up on their quest to make 600WHP.

motors nowadays do not need to be broken in when you drive them off the lot.
