Why doesn't anybody race?

ya I was doing more reading on this topic, and it makes a lot of sence, I dont do much organized racing. It is tough matching up against somebody that is a good race. Two types of people want to race me, one a 16 sec type of car, or a 12 or 13 sec type of car. Where I know I can look at the car and tell you who is going to win the race. Somebody from sls asked me to race just last night, and now I kinda regreat not taking the race. Win or loose It really doesnt matter i guess. (shortened quote, becuase its huge)Damn wrote a book huh. The car that asked you to race last night was a 14 sec car... with just ghetto mods thrown on. But you'll go rice in and out of traffic with a corvette...
Here's a quote from you "People just need to respect each others choices and domains and not hate on everything and everybody."
I don't understand this coming from you becuase just above that you posted how a car that is fast but doesn't have heavy subs or "ice" or riced out bodkits is a POS. Sounds like some hatin' going on... Anyway, I also don't think you understand what is involved in building a "race" car, I'd be pretty impressed if you spent $10,000 and blow the doors of the POS you seem to be talking about.

sorry to hear about that taylor, that sucks. But it is exactly why I don't race...well, much anyway.

hehe...yeah, she was driving the wrx on friday and on her way home from work when an orange mazda 6 wagon w/ cf hood starts revving on her on the 45th street overpass stoplight. So she vacuum locks the brakes, revs the car to 4700 RPM and destroys him off the line. Then they both get into the turn lane so she intentionally keeps him close through the off ramp as he pulls onto the interstate he starts accelerating again so she again hits the gas and pulls away from him... I was so proud when I heard that story...lol

Oh, and she has a better driving record than me, she can get away with that type stuff.

We're thinking about that actually. I want to get her something that very few people have, seeing how I can't afford a Ferrari, I'll have to settle on something else..heh. Thinking maybe a Starion, but she likes the look of the 240sx quite a bit, so maybe a 240sx w/ RB25 conversion, sylvia front end. Going to have to wait until I get my tax refund and xmas bonus to even think about her car.
The other option is to turbo her Rav4, maybe drop it a little and add a bomex body kit as well (she likes showy stuff). Pettit Racing makes a turbo kit for the Rav4, but I think I could piece one together for less than 5k. The pettit kit puts the HP numbers up to about 250 WHP (I think...it's been a while since I looked), so that could be quite the sleeper she'd have..lol.

You honestly want to know the problem with the scene in this town?
People here are stupid. They don't know anything about cars, they don't know what parts to buy for their cars, and they don't really care about anything other than fucking neon. I see it every day at work where random people will come in and just really have no general knowledge of anything but they want stuff that "looks cool".

DING! We have a winner. You are exactly right. However, isn't it partially the shops responsibility to try and open their eyes to new experiences. I mean, wouldn't it make sense for everyone involved in this game to say to the guy that's coming in for the neons "Hey, I haven't seen you around before, a bunch of us are going out to Sabin to watch the races this Friday, you should come along, there will be some pretty cool cars out there and I think you'd enjoy it.......look for my car its the _______ I will be racing as well.....bring along some friends as well, it's a good time"
That way you are opening several doors...you are getting the trust of the customer by having him hang out with the guys from the shop, you are opening him up to the world of dragracing..thereby possibly creating a ton more business for your shop. SLS and Type-R might be the exception to this rule, I think just about everyone who goes there is already into the scene, or else they wouldn't even know about them. But Tintmasters, Roadsounds, Team, Autowerx, and anyone else I'm forgetting should be proactively trying to nurture these people into coming out. Maybe you guys are doing that already, I don't know.

Yeah, we dont get that crowd of people into the shop because that is not the market we suite/support. We do not stock the items such as neon, altezza's, etc.. SO when someone walks in the door they have performance in mind, which is mainly what we deal in. If the local shops dont stock these "ricer" items and soldonly performancemore people would be into performance. But thats not the case in this town for other shops....

V6...its lighter and plus you can take the money you would need to buy the V8 and put it in the V6 and TURBO IT!agreed. Turbocharge it as is for the time being. Keep the boost low and make somewhere close to 250ish RWHP and have a decently quick car. When you're ready for more, have a Stroked 4.2L built (4.3L) and slap that in there. Relatively easy swap I understand, will run off factory electronics (need to be dyno tuned of course), and crank the boost up.
(but I think we've been over this before...)

personally, the reason i dont race is because i dont have the money to. sure its not too hard to find a safe place to do it, but if for some reason i get caught, i dont have the money to pay for a fine. that and i know if i pushed my car that hard something is bound to break... and i dont want to pay to have it fixed..... again.
if i had a little better cash flow, hell id be out there every night racing whoever wanted to.

for me money is no object, I drive a black awd talon with gunmetal stock swirl rims. I traveled about 15 hours to look at it, I dicided to buy it and took it home. I had it for two weeks and melted a piston. My fault, my wiring on my mas was shitty so it fucked up my air fuel so bad it melted a piston. What im trying to get at is I've blown up my second car in less than a year and keep getting new ones, in this cars case fixing it. I dont make very much money. but i still try to keep the scene alive. When the new motor is dropped in I'll race harwood even. I dont care, its fun.

sorry dont know how to use the quote thing, but this car I was talking about, was no car in general, I couldnt even remember the last car I saw like that. But when i lived in fergus this type of thing would happen and a few occurances in fargo I am mainly talking about a car that is about to fall apart and rusting out, all ripped up and whatever. The reason I would rip on them is because they harass me, so that gets to me, so then I say things like that. If all they want is a fast car that is fine, but dont be a dick to me because I made different choices. I'm not talking about anyone on the board or any of that. and for ten grand I could make a 11.9 sec paseo or faster if I put it all into the motor and stripped the car out.
