im not just saying this because i hate cops either. cops are great, they are needed otherwise there would be chaos.

why do u say that, how many cops do u think say and heard u that night. I was just in Fargo today and saw a cop every few miles. Every other block i saw someone who had ileagal exhaust in some way, performance that was too loud, exhaust leak that was too loud, trucks that were too loud. how come none of those cops cared and pulled any of them over. because they dont care thats whycops every other block huh.......did you not read the forum or any of the forums on here. Noise is the biggest complaint. what other reason would they be targeting exhaust modifications.......

I disagree.Low tone cars (v8's) carry more, but I wouldn't say they are significantly louder.

its the same where i live. the cops will all the sudden pull over a few people with performance exhaust saying people are complaining. but what about the chopper that is behind me and yet i can hear his shit over mine. im not saying all cops or even that many are doing this but some are. you know if someone with a bike got pulled over you would hear about it because it never happens.

the complaints may be true and ill bet some people are complaining about it. but go get yourself a harley and some leather like a biker and ride it around town, making sure its loud. pretty sure you wont get pulled over. im not calling the cops liars, but the cops that actually pull people over for it target certain people.

ive never been pulled over in my crx for it either. but i know plenty of people who have, but no one who was pulled over for there truck exhaust unless they were screwing around revin it at someone. but never for it when they were just drivin around. i understand what ur sayin, and i was just tryin to get my point across.

I see this as basically being pulled over based on a cops opinion, seen as how nobody can get a straight answer from them as to where the legal/illegal line is drawn. Maybe my opinion is the cop is full of shit but that won't help me out if I get a ticket, so why should his opinion be so much more important. Just because he wears a badge and I don't? I hear, see and yes smell all these stinky ass diesel trucks and semis driving down the road putting out black smoke and stinking up everthing behind them and when on the highway you always hear semis downshifting and using there jake brakes, believe me some of them are loud as hell, but I don't see them getting exhaust tickets. Oh wait, that's right, they stink and put out black smoke from the factory so it's OK, I forgot about that.
Getting a ticket because an officer "thinks" your exhaust is to loud is like getting pulled over for almost not stopping at a stop sign. But then again it has happened and in my "opinion" the cop that did it was an asshole.
And for those few that got pulled over supposadly for drunk driving, that's just an excuse for them to pull you over because they had no legitimate reason to do so in the first place, then, they hit you with the exhaust bullshit. -
it is an opinion thing, that cop could think your car was louder then everyone elses, or that it is too loud or annoying, but u dont think that, and other people might not think that.
-
if it's a big deal on targeting ask them who they have been ticketing, get some stats. I also would like to see a db limit set, I wanna do some exhaust mods and don't wanna get hit either. Another thought....just a thought.....when a saleen mustang is built that exhaust is then factory from saleen. Chuck, you have a business, you can say that your car is the first TJamz subaru and therefore the exhaust is stock to that vehicle.

u want to talk about how only one has gotten a ticket. how can he say he needs to start enforcing the law and yet no one else has been givin a ticket. there is no way he hasnt seen anyone with illegal exhaust since then. how come he hasnt pulled anyone else over, why did he choose him, and not say a truck or a motorcycle?

there is a response to chucks letter in the chat with the chief section on the fpd website

The majority of the people are bitching about profiling of certain cars. Until you have the stats of who has been pulled over (eg. motorcycles, trucks, domestics, imports) we have no argument.......... Also we want to know is what constitutes a ticket..........do some research before you argue an old topic. that is what the search button is for.
