Exhaust Ticket Response from Fargo PD
-
ive never been pulled over in my crx for it either. but i know plenty of people who have, but no one who was pulled over for there truck exhaust unless they were screwing around revin it at someone. but never for it when they were just drivin around. i understand what ur sayin, and i was just tryin to get my point across.

I see this as basically being pulled over based on a cops opinion, seen as how nobody can get a straight answer from them as to where the legal/illegal line is drawn. Maybe my opinion is the cop is full of shit but that won't help me out if I get a ticket, so why should his opinion be so much more important. Just because he wears a badge and I don't? I hear, see and yes smell all these stinky ass diesel trucks and semis driving down the road putting out black smoke and stinking up everthing behind them and when on the highway you always hear semis downshifting and using there jake brakes, believe me some of them are loud as hell, but I don't see them getting exhaust tickets. Oh wait, that's right, they stink and put out black smoke from the factory so it's OK, I forgot about that.
Getting a ticket because an officer "thinks" your exhaust is to loud is like getting pulled over for almost not stopping at a stop sign. But then again it has happened and in my "opinion" the cop that did it was an asshole.
And for those few that got pulled over supposadly for drunk driving, that's just an excuse for them to pull you over because they had no legitimate reason to do so in the first place, then, they hit you with the exhaust bullshit. -
it is an opinion thing, that cop could think your car was louder then everyone elses, or that it is too loud or annoying, but u dont think that, and other people might not think that.

if it's a big deal on targeting ask them who they have been ticketing, get some stats. I also would like to see a db limit set, I wanna do some exhaust mods and don't wanna get hit either. Another thought....just a thought.....when a saleen mustang is built that exhaust is then factory from saleen. Chuck, you have a business, you can say that your car is the first TJamz subaru and therefore the exhaust is stock to that vehicle.

u want to talk about how only one has gotten a ticket. how can he say he needs to start enforcing the law and yet no one else has been givin a ticket. there is no way he hasnt seen anyone with illegal exhaust since then. how come he hasnt pulled anyone else over, why did he choose him, and not say a truck or a motorcycle?

there is a response to chucks letter in the chat with the chief section on the fpd website

The majority of the people are bitching about profiling of certain cars. Until you have the stats of who has been pulled over (eg. motorcycles, trucks, domestics, imports) we have no argument.......... Also we want to know is what constitutes a ticket..........do some research before you argue an old topic. that is what the search button is for.

it's a very interesting link to have, lotsa good questions and a few dumb ones.

Heres the deal, if a car is loud it SHOULD get pulled over, regardless of country of origin/age/style of vehicle. We've beaten this to death on here already. The ONLY thing I want in writing from the cop is what makes an exhaust illegal. Is any aftermarket exhaust illegal? My interpretation of his email to me is that yes it is by his standards. Which is total BS. I want clarity, so far all I've gotten is more confusion.
Again, IF A CAR IS LOUD IT SHOULD GET TICKETED. BUT if we have a buffer for alcohol consumption and driving (for example, most people can pass a sobriety test after having 1 or 2 beers) there must be some sort of leniency for exhaust upgrades, because last I checked a loud exhaust never killed anyone, but consuming one drink can and does slow your reflexes a bit.

do you have those stats that you were talking about? or are you just assuming this because youve only heard of one person getting a ticket?no stats here, but do you have any stats that they are profiling.......or do you believe everything you read in the paper

I am sure its not that big of a priority, it is just another excuse to pull you over/make quota

fortunately they probably won't have to deal with us speed racers for about 4-5 months as its getting colder out now and a lot of us are putting them in storage.
