JDMSTi, have you seen the top-mount intakes that are available for the WRX? Those are actually kinda cool...go right where the TMIC should go and are unseen unless the hood is popped.

However looking at dyno plots and cfm maps, you can tell that the difference in pressure loss vs a GOOD well done FMIC and a GOOD aftermarket TMIC is almost negligable. TurboXS and APS both make aftermarket TMIC solutions that have been dyno proven. Was considering one for awhile, only other problem your still left with the major PITA of removing it anytime you want to work on your car. However you have that problem stock

I wonder how it holds up in Higher speeds w/ wind; hope it's mounted good.

I'd be more worried about the effects of sun/bugs/excess road crap/water with it in that location. plus it looks rather homogay imho....

Umm...adam, I was taking about a Top Mount INTAKE...not intercooler. As for good TMIC, IMHO they don't exist. They are all located on TOP of a hot engine, so any time you sit there idling, all you do is soak heat. I think it was Turbo or SCC (one of the Primedia mags, I get them all confused) that did a story a while back that showed the stock TMIC was nearly as good as the aftermarket ones IF you just did the silicone hose kit to the stock unit. That is where the problem lies in the stock WRX TMIC setup, that gay-ass plastic y-pipe is JUNK. A Perrin or Samco y-pipe is worth every penny if you want to keep the stock TMIC. The manufacturer dyno proven part of all the TMIC's is kinda suspect as well. Sure, they can make extra HP by increasing the size of the IC when the engine is cool. When they do their pulls I'd be willing to bet they have the hood open and 1-2 floor driers blowing into the engine bay, which MIGHT replicate driving on the interstate, but around town, in stop and go traffic the IC's will soak heat which WILL cause HP loss and/or detonation.

yeah ive seen that Top mount intake...the Gravelsports intake i beleive.
Also i still like the top mount intake and when i do my swap im not going to have a front mount...idk i think the STi Version 7 one is big enough and i im not looking to make insane power, cuz i want super quick spool up and it would defeat the purpose of the scoop.

JDMSTi, I understand why you'd go TMIC, especially since you are going after you are basing your car on a JDM WRX. You are the last person I'd give a hard time to regarding anything you've done, since you actually do research and do your mods for a specific purpose.

Thanks man i appreciate it...i do try very hard to not waste my money and buy only the best for my needs and whatnot...I have a good deal of respect for you as well being as youre not some punk kid who saw a WRX in an import mag and said hey thats a fast car, daddy can i have one! I was impressed you knew so much about the rally car and even about the baddest Impreza ever the 22b. You have different goals for your WRX than i but at least we try to go at it logically and dont just buy any part that comes off the shelf cuz its supposed to make your car go fast
