A few other things to consider:

Although the government subsidizes some of the production of corn and ethanol, it also saves the government some money by providing jobs in production which brings in tax money, and keeps some ppl off unemployment so a lot of this money is offset.

Ethanol is helping keep oil prices down because OPEC is keeping oil prices low enough that Ethanol is not as attractive of an option. If ethanol wasn't available, oil prices would have nothing competing to keep them down.
this may be true... but the sad thing is from what i remember... is big oil owns alot of the ethanol factories

I own a fuel flex vehicle. Do i run it on ethanol? nope, cuz it runs like shit. I believe ethanol is a small step in the right direction. The American public is too stubborn and stupid to realize something until its too late(eg: Fuel shortage/Cost). if only we could implement mass transportation as good as european and asian countries, along with geothermal/wind/solar energy into our homes and commercial property along with simply reducing energy usage and we would have ourselves a much better world.

        no race car? becuz homeowner...

if your car runs like shit when you switched over to E85 then youre doing something wrong. you have to have less than 10% of a tank of fuel and then you have to put in a FULL tank of gas. the fuel eye needs to read more than 35% ethanol or it wont switch over to ethanol maps let alone correct for it.

It would be sweet if we had mass transportation like Europe. And the house in PR and the resturant are geothermal.

I used to think e85 wasnt a good thing... After a friend of mine tuned his car on it I saw some of the benifits... The higher octane means more boost over running premium... Sure race gas is better, but when u use the car for daily driving and going out of town, e85 seems like a better choice... I dont see very many places when u go out of town on a trip where u can fill up race gas whenever u'd be running low, however there's a lot of towns, even little ones that have e85 at the pump... I'd rather use that than either A) run out of gas or B) carry a gas can with race gas wherever u go... As for using much more fuel when running on e85... he didnt loose very many mpg

Well i know trevor is gonna flame me for this... but how good would e85 hold up to an all motor car? How much compression could u actually run with it compared to premium or race gas?

It is ~105 octane and is oxygenated (I believe) so whatever amount of compression you can run normally with 105 octane gas w/o knock/ping/detonation

You could run basically as much compression as a conservative race gas. I have heard of guys planning on doing 13:1 but never seen it done. It is a big advantage for all motor if you build it with higher compression with the intentions of running E85.
