Fast and the Furious: The Tokyo Drift Car Show
-
Alright, so I have been talking with some people and this idea came up. Plan on there being a car show either the night before the show or the day/night of the show. I will get a vote and see what we all agree on. I am going to try to get the theatre involved to give the best of each category a free pass to the movie just to give everyone a little encouragement to show up. There will be no entry fee obviously, but I will try to get a sheet printed up to give out when someone wants to enter so we know who is actually entered. The movie opens on Friday June 16th. I am open to suggestions on what should go down.
Thanks,

One problem Tony, those of us registered for SCN need to be at the show the night before to get our cars entered/prepped.

Now if we could just get the movie theater to sponsor some "sneak preview" type tickets, we could have the winners of the show get in for a private screening at midnight or something on the morning of the 16th....

sounds like a good idea.....but there is already a car show the 16th.....the Valley City car show....mostly older cars but usually like 10-20 import cars.

tjamz, I started to type you a PM but thought that maybe everyone should have the information up front.
I don't want to come off as an asshole but I can not "give" product away for free. To give you guys an idea of what our product is, go ask Best Buy to give 300 DVD's to you for whatever and see what their answer is. I get a little tired of people thinking that, "awww, its just a movie, why can't you do this for free", how do you think we could stay in business if we gave our product away? I can give out a few free passes now and then, but understand that we are a store like any other with a product that we charge certain prices for.
As far as the movie, there are a few unknowns at this point. I don't know if the film company will want to have us run a midnight show for the general public like so many of the films do now, like X-Men. I don't know yet where the movie is going to be playing, WAC or Century. I don't yet know if there are going to be pass restrictions on the movie so the idea of giving out a free pass to the movie for your winners might not work out too well.
A "sneak preview" is when the film company releases a movie for showing on a specific day or night, usually a Fri or Sat night, is generally a week or two before the actual release date and most times it plays with another movie.
A premiere is any showing that we may do the night before the movie actaully opens for private parties and are costly. We just had one this last Thurs night for Prairie Public Radio where their members were able to see the movie before it opened on Fri for the general public.
A special showing would be any showing of a movie that a person would want to watch "outside" of our normally scheduled show times for the general public. For example, a 9:00 am showing on a Sat morning and these do have different rates. Don't have my rate card here at home and would rather not post them as they change from time to time so I don't want to post the wrong info, call me at the theatre for them. I can tell you that if you don't have more than 110 people it will be a flat $500.00.
Special showings in the mornings are cheaper, than a premiere, however, the showing must be paid for at that time and in a lump sum as we don't open the boxoffice and "sell tickets" to anyone that walks in. There is a lot more info that goes along with this but I don't want to type it all out.
I would like to try to do something but you guys are a little too close to the opening date to be planning something like this. You should have started about 3 weeks ago so you would be well past the planning stages and on to finalizing the details of your show. I'm not saying that something still can't be planned it's just that you are getting short on time, I don't like to do things last minute and half assed as we might run in to scheduling issues.
Chuck or Tony, if you want all the info, give me a call on Monday at the theatre, I am in my office for most of the day but the afternoon is the best time to catch me. I am usually out of there by 11:30 pm and at the bar across from the theatre drinking.
I'm not sure where you were planning to have your car show, not to be an ass again, but I'd hate to think that you just assumed you could use my parking lot, if you could get a decent numbers of cars there, we can work something out.
oh BTW, if you haven't figured it out, I'm the theatre manager.
