local kids set turtle on fire.

This thread is huge... But We've all done stupid shit when we were young, if anything the 18 year old should go to jail for like a day or two, and then have probation and community service.
People do more fucked up things then kill a turtle and they get away with it
the people in peta need to get a life, and do something that actually matters

It was a grown female and you can't say one way or another if the turtle was painfully hurt from this. How can you say turtle skin isn't flame resistant at all? Have you tried to burn one? From The Forum, "The turtle is believed to have returned back to water after the incident".now thats just stupid. name one animal whos skin is so flame resistant that it can be set on fire and not be hurt.

Holy fuck you guys get to work.

It wasn't like they took a torch and directed it at the turtle's face until it ignited. They burned fuel off the turtles body. Watch the video again, tell me if you see any skin that looks burnt or mangled.
And yes, Dragon's like Brian says:icon_albino:

Honestly,im not a "tree hugger,a hippie,or an animal rights person" But what they did is rong. Hell ive killed an animal before when i was like 9 yrs old, it was a dimond back snake(i was also scared shitless of it). But these kids had no right to just say "hey dude theres a turtle there...where??...should we light it on fire? hahaha duh..ok" Thats just retarted. As for their punishment,i think a couple days in jail or juvie wouldnt hurt some community service and probation. But no death penelty or something crazy like that

OK, I was sleeping since my first post(night shift - teh Gayzor) otherwise u know me, I wouldve been disagreeing with all of you every other post.
A. I didnt know how old the kids were, but regardless, this doesn't make me think they should serve a worse punishment.
B. I like the point someone brought up about the lobster thing... They have cooking videos FOR SALE showing people doing that, Is Emerill Lagazi GOing to Jail? I think not.
C. I agree with nate on it probably not hurting the turtle. Theres probably a reason a lot of lakes around here have turtles 100 plus years old living in them. Plus turtles are pretty much as close to a dragon as you can get, Am I right?

this is dumb, ive never heard anyone defending the turtles before this came about. anyone here mourning the death or whatever of the stupid turtle needs to get out more.
comparing a death to a turtle to a death of a puppy or kid is just night and day...well unless your master splinter

Ok, maybe a couple months in jail is extreme (unless they have a record of violence prior to this, then I say leave them in there for the max time). I do think they should do a little time somewhere for "INTENTIONALLY" trying to cause physical harm to an animal with no other purpose than for entertainment. Yes, I have killed many, many, many gophers and prairie dogs which is permitted under law. Why did I kill them? Well it was for financial reasons...no I didn't get paid to kill them, but by reducing the gopher population it greatly reduced the likelihood of one of my parents cattle from breaking their legs by stepping in a gopher hole, it also limited the potential for diseases being spread as gophers would often locate themselves near feeders in our pastures and would often shit in the feed.
I've never shot an animal just to see it in pain or to watch it flop around.
As for lobsters, yes the way they get cooked would be painful I imagine, but IIRC if you kill a Lobster prior to boiling it, the lobster will emit a toxin throughout its body making the meat uneatable (at least this is what I was told, I've not researched this one bit).

Just a quick point about the lobster comparison. A lobster dies pretty much INSTANTLY when it hits the boiling water. If anything it might suffer for a second, but then it's dead. Burning from gasoline is different...
