why not just buy a cheap crossover cable?

Shit, most new computers don't need crossover cables anyways...smart NICs FTW....

At first I did it for fun, then I realized I made the investment and had to do it!

NIC's???? Anyways I was told that I would need a router to do so. I have a jump drive but that takes forever, How do crossover cables work, I though I could just hook up USB cables but I guess not...shows what I know about computers......LOL!

        learned something today.

I've used a cheap crossover between my laptop and desktop for quite some time now. Takes all of a couple minutes to set up.

Yeah esp. in the past 2 years, alot of the NIC's don't require crossovers (and routers and such too)...

          Xbox360 doesnt....

Network Interface Card...you don't need a router at all, just a crossover cable, if anything. How old is your computer? I'd say just give it a shot with a straight ethernet cable. You'll know if it doesn't work.

                Thanks
I'm gonna get some crossover cables. I was told not to do the ethernet cables! How does the NIC work, do you still need crossover cables with that?

A NIC is the card you use to interface the network...a smart NIC is what you don't need a crossover cable for..

Thanks for clearing that up for me! As you can tell I'm kind of a slow learner when it comes to computer stuff!
