  • getting my car tuned.

Stock pulleys are 3.8" and make like 6-7PSI. 3.4's are good for 10-11PSI. They make a 2.55" pulley actually. I make about 5PSI on my 3.8" but my blower has high milage and I have good exhaust so its not crazy to loose 1-2PSI just making it flow better aparently.

I asked about that pulley Vs. header thing seeing so many cars with 3.4" pulleys and so few headers a few months ago on a GP board and 15 or so people said headers and nobody said pulley. The overall message was "only people that dont know what they are doing put pulleys on before headers."

It doesnt suprise me that a 3.4" would damage the motor if the previous owner ran 87 and stock exhaust. I see a bit of knock on a 3.8" and good exhaust on 89 so more boost, less flow and worse fuel would possibly cause it.

From what I understand a pulley should only be done after headers and good exhaust. You just end up boost stacking and causing unnecessary heat and knock. You wont blow the motor up but it probably would be slower or no faster.

You say your replacing pistons? Theres a good chance the pulley caused that. Also, how big is the pulley?

I used HPtuners to tune my firebirds NA 3800 ECM to supercharged tune when I stuck the GTP motor in it. It isnt hard to figgure out and the only bad part is the $500 entry cost. But if you look at it you get a universal OBD2 code scanner, can check for knock all the time, can change stuff for free once you license it. I havnt messed with spark or anything on mine but thats just because its winter and I dont need any more power than it has right now. I went in knowing nothing but im confident in my abilities in it now. Sorta, hahaha....

Essentially id suggest buying HPtuners, it will come in usefull in the future. Or you can drive to Minneapolis and have CJtunes tune it for you. Its like $300 but ive never heard anything bad about him.

I voted for the mustang. Challengers are just too big for me, and the camaros look a bit blocky. The pontiac conversions make them look better, but the mustangs in blue look awesome. I'd just as soon buy one of the V6 cars and put a procharger on it than buy a 5.0 car. Might end up costing more than a V8 car in the end but it something different.

And CTS-V's are great. They are one of the few good looking cars that are built today. CTS's stand out, its one good thing Cadillac has done sice the 70's. They dont look like all other GM cars. Besides, every single asian luxury car looks about as exciting as a blade of grass, and the germans aren't far behind. Comparing a CTS V to a mustang cant really be done. You get 50% more car, sizewise and comfort, thats why its 50% more. Its like comparing a S10 to a new Ford Raptor.

Or I can save the 40 grand and build an awesome pro touring '67 cougar or something along those lines and forget new stuff.

Itasca is nice, but another option that is closer is Glendalough State Park. If you camp on the other side of Annie Battle Lake there is nobody there, and motor boats are not allowed. Last time I was there I didnt see any other groups. Only way to get there is either canoe or a hike. Bunch of nice trails if your into hiking and the lake is pretty nice if you find a sandy spot. Plus if you fail at gas stove cooking you can drive to Zorbaz or whatever.

I will have to keep that in mind. I was headed the opposite way anyways. You probably wont be seing much of the olds either as the MSD box went out in it and their repair department sucks and doesnt fix stuff.

If you see a red firebird with a single 3" exhaust coming out of the back its either me or my father. Dont worry, its slow.

Yeah I went Saturday and had a good time. Worth the $10 to get in for sure. Woulda liked to see the front engine dragster run a good pass but still was good to watch.

Weather was nice too. Perfect day to spend the afternoon outside.

  • Black Honduh in Pelican
    G Gutless

Was passing through Pelican Rapids today and saw some matte black Honda Civic with a giant sticker on the front windshield. Not only did it have the average 3 inch tall sticker going across the top, along with the large rear spoiler on a front wheel drive car, but it had a 6 inch tall TINTMASTERS sticker going across the bottom. If you are reading this, please remove the sticker. Not because I don't want people supporting the shop, but because 6 inch tall stickers going right in front of where you need to look is unsafe and dumb, and makes you look like you belong in a mental institute. I swear, 25% of the windshield was covered in stickers. That might be funny to watch in Talladega Nights, but your not Will Ferrell.

If anything, it was worse than limo tint would be on your front windshield. I can't belive a cop wouldn't pull you over for it.

Black would look great, but i dont feel like getting the car lazer straight. Just want to get the paint on it. Color Im going with is Jadestone. Its a dark green that as a decent amount of metallic in it. Car was close to that from the factory (Dark Jadestone Metallic) so I just chose to try and keep it stock. I can get away without having to paint all the stuff like the trunk seams and door jambs.

If I pulled the body off the frame Id go with a different color but color changes are such a PITA to do without tearing apart everything I just went for this green. Its actually a pretty cool color.

It should be pretty close to this, 2 years ago when I got it buffed out and waxed.

Yep, so you have helped me make up my mind. My next project will have a turbo L33 5.3 in it. Thing sounds great and should make some serious power to boot.

Looks like your not half bad with a MIG either. Im assuming thats MIG with the welder sittin by it.

Word of warning, its either the Holley blue or red pumps that spontaniously combust on occasion and usually fail randomly. One is decent, the other one is garbage. It escapes me to what one is which though. Im too lazy to look for the thread that talked about it somewhere...

Got the same steering wheel as my Cutlass too! :icon_cheers:

Sounds mean. Sounds like a jet when it spools up. LS's are probably one of the better sounding engines out there. I think they are only second to a big block Olds or Buick.

Are you using a stock ECU to control it or something like a megasquirt or FAST?
